Hi all

I have read several people's messages who say their scalps flake. Well mine does but only if I give into the itching... otherwise it doesn't just fall off on it's own. Does that sound like scalp psoriasis?

As you can tell from previous messages, my drs are reluctant to refer me so I am trying my best to find out what I can on here until the time comes when I do get a derm appointment.

Thanks for any comments

Mine is the same. But I wouldn't say I had psoriasis...

Perhaps you just have a dodgy scalp like lots of people in the world?

Perhaps. None of the 4 drs I have seen have said that though. They have just said 'oh it's either some sort of dermatitis or psoriasis'. Great help eh.

Yeah. Doctors rule. Roll Eyes

Never forget the classic "Its just eczema"... Said in a tone similar to "Its just a cold."

Argh... I mean have you tried having a root around your scalp while looking in the mirror? Seeing what you can find. With me I just have the odd areas of dry skin flakes, if you have some red, silvery patches it may well be psoriasis.

Ugh - how annoying that must have been  Angry

I have what my 3rd dr described as an 'extensive patch' on my head. I remember when it all started in 1994 it was such a tiny patch but it itched like hell so much so that I shaved my hair off with a razor. I have long hair so that really pained me but at least I could shave underneath where the patch was and leave longer hair to hang over it. It was the only relief I ever had as, as long as the hair was literally shaved right off it didn't itch at all. As soon as it grew back the patch returned and the itching started again.

Back then the patch was about an inch across, tops. Now I imagine it is almost over all of the back of my head. It itches like hell most of the time, but as soon as I get stressed it itches even more (and I usually can't stop myself scratching). With 2 kids under the age of 3 I am stressed quite often  Wink

Can't quite bring myself to do a GI Jane and shave the lot off - I'd look ridiculous  ROFL

Yet another essay from me... sorry!!!

Aveeda has a WONDERFUL product for dry scalps called Scalp Remedy I think.  I'm not sure if thats the name but I'm pretty sure it is.
It's about $20 a bottle but its worth it.

You should check it out!

I had flaky scalp too until about two weeks ago when I read about the apple cider vinegar treatment.  I tried it & it works.  I am now about 85% dandruff free, still doing my apple cider vinegar treatment.  The caused of the dandruff is not the dry scalp which we all thought it was, just the opposite--oily scalp.  I soaked my scalp & hair with apple cider for about 5 hours on my first treatment.  The effect was unbelievable!!!  I can now wear dark clothes.

Hi,

I would say that this sounds like a dry flakey scalp.  Try some of the methods above but if none work go back to your doctors.

My old doctor would say that my acne was just spots and would go away on it's own.  Even though it was getting worse and worse everytime I looked in a mirror.  I demanded for a 2nd opinion, you have that right.  If you aren't happy with a diagnosis then you can demand a second opinion, maybe the other doctor would be more sympathetic.  My new doc was and I'm finally getting some treatment that seems to be working (fingers crossed!)

Love Willow xx
