Title: Mystery Skin Disorder
Post by: Webbs18 on June 02, 2003, 04:19:24 AM

Hi,
I stumbbled on to this site wondering aimlessly on the interernet trying to find some answers. A couple days ago I noticed something on my arms, legs, and upper thighs. It seems to be random purple bruise like spots. They aren't elevated. I haven't been able to find a picture on the internet that even remotely resembles my disorder. Are there any experts on the subject, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dustin

Hi Dustin

A big welcome to the Forum. I would say you should firstly go and see a GP, then Dermatologist, to give you a diagnosis. Doing a bit of searching have a look at a condition called Ecchymoses.

Here is a site also, with a vast collection of images. Let us know how you get on. Maybe some others here may offer you some advice.

:hi: Dustin,

Welcome to our forum, pleased to have you with us. ;D

I agree with the others, go see a doctor or/and a derm, they should be able to give you a proper diagnosis.

As E-Ian as already said, you stumbled into the right place. Here we give as much support and help as we possibly can. Be warned we are a crazy bunch and we do like to have a laugh and joke. ;) But we will all be here for you. If you feel like having a good moan, go into 'Rant n Rage' near the bottom of the main page and let it out. A bunch of us will come and join in with you. There is also a good 'Bar/Tea room' which we use to celebrate anything, then there's the funny pages and social club, where you will get a few laughs. ;)

Looking forward to getting to know you better through your posts. Hope you get some answers soon.

Keep coming in and let us know how you get on.

Take care,
Val

Hi Dustin

Welcome to the forum :hi:

I'm glad you stumbled in. I stumbled in about a year ago and I still cant's find the exit

As you haven't mentioned anything about itching or losing any skin or anything it makes me wonder if it's a pigmentation problem ? ?

Have a look at some the images you can find on this site

The best thing though is always to seek proper medical advice on these things, it's very easy to get symptoms mixed up. ;)

Hi Dustin,

Please if you haven't already make an appointment to see a doctor! And let's hope those purple patches are something that can be easily treated! If you aren't satisfied that your GP and dermatologist are taking the purple patches seriously, don't hold back on voicing your concerns.

Hi Dustin
Welcome to the boards, I too like you am new here... still feeling my way around...

Firstly I would suggest you go to a dermo.... and have it checked out.
... Now I am no expert on it, but it could be you have the same
problem as I have, which is called Granuloma Annulare, it does not
itch it does not hurt, its not bacterial or viral or cancerous, it just
looks awful, some people go eeeeeeeeeuw whats that on your legs,
others have said that it looks like I have masses of bruises and others think its eczema etc etc........
I have had this very rare condition /disorder for nearly 15 years
it comes and goes at will. I have been to many dermatologists
both here and in South Africa( I grew up in South Africa and have been back in the UK for 10 years now). They all come up with the same answer, its not harmful or cancerous, they have no idea what
causes it , it can be treated with steroid cream but that thins the skin, its not on the top layer of skin, its on the 2nd layer...It will come and go, (go into remission, then flare up again).
What I have researched on the internet so far about this rare disorder, is that 1. Its mostly common in children
2. If found in adult, it could and has not been proved yet, but could be associated with Diabetes, even if you
personally dont have diabetes but there is a family history of it...
3. Could be related to Psoriasis yet it does not appear on the top layer of skin like psoriasis.

Now, I have been looking around and reading loads up on it...
Also, as a child right up until my late teens I was a very very allergic
person, still am in some things.... I had one skin allergy after the other, which the Dermatologists would say I would grow out of,
which of course I did out of most of them.... I used to get terrible
eczema, all over the backs of my knees and back part of top of thighs , inside of elbows and even on my face... My parents have
films of me and all you see is this constant scratching. I used to
be allergic to sitting on grass, and still am, I come out in hives ...
allergice to some types of wood, etc etc... all if, came into contact with my skin would cause a nasty reaction. I am still allergic to
flea bites and mosquito bites (fortunately not bees), one bite and my whole body comes out in papules /blisters full of water and boy do they itch. Most of my eczema cleared up in my late teens...
Only to get asthma and acute hayfever as an adult. I started getting asthma when I was 28.
So............. my conclusion is .......... maybe this granuloma is related
to all my past problems as a child... I have not been able to get any
dermatologist to agree with me on this.... So am interested to see
if you may have suffered from any allergies etc as a child....
Anyway, you get yourself to a dermatologist first .....
