I have had this rash around my eyes now for 4 weeks, it is red and burns and itches (I have given up all make up etc for two weeks) - extremely painfull outer corners of my eyes....lots of eye watering...at wits end

Have been to 3 doctors - finally went to a derm who put me on Elidel and Zyrtex, said alot of ladies get this in there "40"s - allergy related, could be exzema, hormonal etc....

Hope this treatment works...also was told to be carefull as to what I was using to clean my glasses and my plastic lens may also be the culprit.....

Welcome to Skincell Tam!

Sorry to hear about your eyes.  Yes it could be allergy related.  My eyes are also very sensitive.

Warm tea bags can be very soothing.

Howdy all! I am a newbie as well.
It seems that for the past two months I have been having similar symptoms.  I woke up one morning with a slight rash just under my right eye.    Two months and counting now, it goes away and comes back sometimes flaring into red bumps that after a day or two flake and then dissappear.   It seemed to stay away when I concentrated on sleeping on my left cheek at night, possibly my right eye tears in my sleep and is causing it.  Ive been using lotion which seems to keep it down but would love to find a permenant fix.  I am tempted to see a dermo and ask for an antibody since one person said that it turned out to be an infection.  Since a few people have posted diff. info about what their doc's have said I am a bit sceptical that it is a common rash/whatever or maybe it is a new mutation of something?  I'll have to look into it more and will update when I figure anything out.
Oh yeah, sometimes a few small red rashy bumps appear on the right eyelid as well.

Hello.  I happened to find this site today for the first time.  I have been looking for quite a while to see if anyone had a solution to this eye rash thing.  No one seems to know what it is!!  My symptoms are EXACTLY the same as the first entry to this "rash around eyes."  I have been suffering from it for about 2 1/2 months now.  I originally thought it was the result of a new cologne that I was using.  I stopped using it and the rash went away, then I would come in contact with things that had it on it still and then I finally cleaned EVERYTHING I own like 4 times and stayed at my sister's house for a week.... it disappeared!  Long story short, it came back and has been back ever since.  I have long since gotten rid of that cologne but it seems that no matter where I am sleeping, it comes anyway.  Every morning I wake up with it really bad.  It never completely goes away.  Has anyone figured out a solution to this?  Maybe that one comment was right that it is some type of NEW mutation thing....   :)  Anyway, I don't know.... but it is ugly, annoying and occasionally painful, especially at the corner of the eyes.  It is not on my eyelids either.  Anyway, if anyone has some insight, I would LOVE to hear it!  Thanks....

Newbie,
- Andy

I have exactly the same problem as a number of people here have described, and it started around the same time as the rest of them it appears (from the posting dates anyway).  Red bumps/patches around eyes, i am now getting them occasionally on eyelids as well.  Started on one eye but now shows up on both.  Shows up more in the morning, and they either flake away over a few days or flatten and become a red patch as opposed to a bump.  Has gone away a few times but keeps coming back, and definitely got worse in the sun.  I have been using a cortizone which worked really well at first but is working less well now and am concerned about putting on the eyelids.  Have to go back to the doc I guess, but if anyone found a solution or a competent doctor who figured it out please let me know.  I live in Canada, don't eat grapes much or anything with Asparatame (causes from previous posts), and can't think of any particular product i use that could cause an allergy.  Damned irritating!

Evening, I have just come across your problem and it is exactly the same as mine, the only difference is that when I get up in the morning it appears better but as soon as the day goes on it gets worse.  I went to the doctor who told me I'd probably got an allergy to eye make-up (which I don't use and promptly told him so).  He prescribed Hc45 Hydrocortisone Cream.  This hasn't worked at all and I did return to the doctor who said to keep using the cream for a further 2 weeks and if that did not help to return to him and he would refer me to a consultant/specialist.  As each day goes by more and more clusters of spots appear around and under my eyes which are also bumpy, and I'm actually getting very self-conscious about this now.  I am returning to the doctor again tomorrow to get a referral to a consultant (I will ask to go private as I do not wait too long for an NHS appointment).  From looking at various web sites on this subject, it may be that I have developed eczema or topical dermatitis, and there does seem an excellent cream around to treat this but unfotunately it does not appear to be available in the UK - it's called Elidel.  I will let you know how I get on!?  From a very self-conscious, vain young lady.

Hello everyone!
I found this site today while trying to find answers about a rash my daughters have.  It sounds like the same one others have described.  My 18 month old came down with it first.  She had small red bumps under one eye and would wake up in the morning with her eye "glued" shut.  She had some discharge but the bumps didn't seem to bother her at all.  I took her to our family doctor who said it was impetigo and prescribed eye drops.  The drops only seemed to work slightly but the rash did go away after about 3 weeks.  It then reappeared about a month later and I treated it with the same drops and it went away again.  Yesterday, my 6 year old had the same bumps under her eye and also has one on her top lid at the base of her eyelashes. This morning, my 18 month old again has bumps under one eye.  This is getting so frustrating!  I have 3 other children who have not developed this rash.  Everything I have read about impetigo leads me to believe that it is NOT what the girls have.  The bumps are very small and only under and around the eye area.  They seem to crust over and then disappear only to have an new ones appear.  My 6 year old says they do not hurt and only itch a tiny bit.  I have called the doctor and he says to keep using the eye drops.........

Greetings,

I'm a newbie and am very glad I discovered this site.

I too developed the same rash around my eyes as so many of you have. Until now I have felt quite lucky in my life that I have never had any allergies. My husband on the other hand has enough for the both of us.   :(

The rash began developing in corner of right eye at the beginning of March. This week it migrated to my other eye. My symptomes resemble all of yours...sometimes itchy, sometimes heavier flare-up, micro pustules...nothing fits. I haven't introduced anything new into my life and have always been  one who uses natural products for face i.e. emu, jojoba or olive oil.

What intrigues me is that there might be a possibility that we all acquired this rash around the same time (judging by some of the posts).  Can some of you 'come back' and post when you first noiticed this rash? It might be interesting to also note where we all live. I'm from New Mexico.

Hear from you soon...have a great week!

Hi: Do you have a Pet?  If so, do you use flea and tick controle such as Frontline? This stuff will irritate your eyes. also your pet may be getting into poison oak and then coming home and giving you more than luvin.

Hello everyone,

I was doing some Google searching and came across this site.

I have had the same symptoms as others seem to be having for the past 1 and a half years.

I have a rash that if not treated has very small sometimes white bumps over it around only my left eye socket and never on my eyelid.

I seemed to start when I got a cat, I have been to many different dermatologist but all say there is not exact answer and that they "think" it's a form of eczema or psoriasis. I have tried Elidel and that only lessened but did not get rid of the inflammation fully, and had to many side effects to out weigh the slight improvement.

I currently use Alcovate which has helped me the most but and hoping to find a real fix, I about 3 months ago got rid of the cat, moved to a new cat free apartment and even changed all my bedding in hopes of this "fixing" the problem, but so far has not even slightly changed the condition.

I recently happened to catch a show on the Science channel and it mentioned a symptom called "toxoplasmosis" that is picked up by fecal matter from cats and their litter, I almost wonder if this could have been the cause of my problems but have no real way of telling.

From what I've been reading and what I've experienced myself it seems like everyone is being told it's a form of dermatitis but I'm starting to get the feeling it may be more of an internal issue in the blood.

I'm going to go and see about getting blood test done and see if I can't find a dermatologist/doctor out there that is more willing to try and solve the issue rather than label it as them "thinking" its part of the dermatitis family.

If anyone is out there that has any answers please let us all know.

Thanks!

Hello all,

I also have this problem.  I have  had it for over a year and a half now.  When I first got it I went to a lot of different doctors.  I tried everything from myconazol (anti-fungal) to corizone cream.  Nothing worked at all.  The rash seemed to spread into a very strange pattern on my body (it may be unrelated though)  I had round rings everywhere.  It looked a lot like ringworm but it wasn't, myconazol did nothing.  Finally a doctor put me on a predizone tapper (it was almost an overdose of it).  Anyways after 2 weeks of hell the ring type rashes disappeared and the rash on my eye seemed to go away.  As soon as i went off the predizone the rash around the eye came back, but never the ring rashes.  The doctor finnaly prescribed elidil which i used for a few weeks, it helped very little and it burned very bad.  The doctor then prescribed locoid lipocream which was much gentialer than elidil.  It helped control the rash somewhat but not much.

Now days i used the licoid when it starts to flair up but it is almost futile when it flairs.  I have not figured out any rhyme or reason as to when it flairs up.  It may be stress related but who knows.  My right eye is much worse than my left.  My right eye waters when it is bad which seems to make it worse.  Touching my eye with my finger causes flair ups, touching it with a damp paper towel seems to help sooth it during a flair up.  I have no idea what causes it but if we all share information we maybe can start connecting the dots.

So here is my info

From the midwest, no pets, symptoms started around the age of 21, I don't drink diet pop but do drink a lot of coke,  i use tide with bleach for laundry soap,  I never had any skin problems prior to this other than a small ring shapped rash that occasionaly appeared in armpits, but this rash never itched or burned.  I seem to have bad dandruff that i can't get rid of, this also seems to be fairly recent.  I am male, don't use cologne, and never put anything on my face.

Anyone drawing any connections?

I have also had this problem for over a month. I've tryed Elidle and cortzone. I picked up some triple antibiotic ointment (walgreens brand $3.00 ) put it around my eyes, and within hours it started to clear up. It's been frustrating. Hope it works
for all of you.

I have the SAME rash around Eyes. I am not sure, but I use to have a VERRY similar rash around my mouth, about 2 years ago... it was called Perioral Dermatitus... Anyway, I say my family physician and he gave me creams and everything, then I went to a dermatolagist, he was mad about the creams! He gave me an anti-biotic to take oraly and told me the rash would flare up worse then ever and then go away! And it did! it was horrible for a couple days but it went away. I can't remember what the anti-biotic was, but I think that the rash might be related somehow. Does anyone know if this EYE rash could be realted to Perioral Dermetitus????

Well I think I might have found an answer off another website, I guess it does affect other areas of the face. Time to go see a dermatolagist hopefully it is the same thing I had before just in a different area because it is very treatable:
Perioral Dermatitis
I. Definition:

Perioral dermatitis is a rash composed of tiny red bumps that are primarily around the mouth, but can also be seen around the nose and on other areas of the face.

II. Causes:

    * Perioral dermatitis is a disease that occurs mostly in young and middle-aged women.
    * Perioral dermatitis can be caused by prolonged therapy with topical corticosteroids (hydrocortisones).
    * The contraceptive pill, cosmetic usage and emotional stress can worsen perioral dermatitis.
    * Toothpaste containing lauryl sulfate may cause perioral dermatitis.
    * The affected area is often worsened by sunlight and almost always by wind, heat, chlorinated pool water and even by washing with hot water.
    * If you have this condition, premenstrual flare ups are common.

III. Treatment:

    * The first step in treating perioral dermatitis is to discontinue all topical corticosteroids.
    * Toothpaste without lauryl sulfate can be purchased from Squigle, Inc. toll free at 877-718-0718.
    * Oral tetracyclines four times a day for about three weeks is a successful source of treatment. Minocin and doxycycline are also effective treatments.
    * There is no medicine that you can apply directly to the skin which will help perioral dermatitis.
