there is, trust me.
I am 42 year old male. I had on Monday March 23rd, 2009 a pretty severe UPPP and Nasel Septum rebuild. All in the same day. I had both tonsils, adenoids, upper and lower palettes removed and septomy with two stints in my nose all in the same day. The reason for having all this done was due to sleep deprivation, I was noted 76 times in an hour that I stopped breathing, my air ways were ver restrictive, the cpap mask did not work well for me. Growing up alot of sore throats, and strep.
Here's the deal on my surgery as it went and the hurt factor.
Day 1: Toughest day, was placed in ICU at the hospital due to virtually no breathing on my own, and my nose completely blocked. The gave me dimerol through an IV for pain and no success, switched to diallen (sp?). This worked better on the pain, but still dreamed horrible images. Requested 1000 mg liquid tylenol every 2 hours which helped. That night by myself was the most worst night of my entire life, bar none. Could not sleep through the pain medication and breathing restrictions.
Day 2: Tougher day, pain really set in now, Mom and wife were by my side, still in ICU all day and night. Pain very severe, spent that night in the hospital. Same meds, no sleep, very disruptive
Day 3: Went home at noon from hospital, have elected to use tylenol only for pain, still extreme pain, level 10. No relief. Can only sip luke warm water at home, eat nothing, drink some chicken broth with extra salt. No sleep, would dose off after taking tylenol for about an hour then wake up with mouth dry and dehydrated to hell. I am noticing that i am only drinking water, as much as I can but it's slow going to get it in my body. Took 4 bathsthat night just to keep my body temp regulated.
Day 4: No change from day before, tried to use on of the diallen pain pills to see if it would work better. I slept about 2 hours, then woke up with some weird dream about India (
) ate chicken broth and drank water all day. Probably drinking 32 ounces of luke warm water per day.
Day 5: (4th day after surgery) Did I forget to mention I had 2 (2") pieces of plastic pipe in my nose. I was ****** (
) today, as no results, and no improvement. Took one of my 4-5 baths that day and elected to pull one of the stints out of my right nostril. There was no bleeding on that side, I needed to breath, I pulled it out with the tweezers and cut it loose. Back to just tylenol only, but have added jello to my diet. Now, just grape jello and luke warm water. Slept about 2 hours that night. Weight loss is now at 25 pounds !!!
Day 6: Family and friends start ringing the phone off the hook, it's Saturday and everyone thinks I should be fine by now. Boss called, told him I might not be back on Monday, just too damn hurting, pain level still 9. Same meds, tylenol, water, jello, 5 baths a day
Day 7: Can now see the spots in the back of my throat ready to drop like little white bombs. Pain in my ears, teeth, and throat, in addition to the one nostril still plugged with blood. One other thing, I spit blood and stuff solid for 8 days, never stopped. Still alot of pain, leve 8 or 9
Day 8: Go to the Doctor to get stint removed from nose. Went to work for 1/2 day, actually got some work done. Very slow, no energy, so I had to take it easy. Too early to get back to work. Went to Dr. he understood about pulling the one out, was not mad, said it was there to stabilize the other side. I got to his office 45 minutes early, literally about to pass out, he came out to the lobby, and immediately took me back. When he pulled my brains out of my nose, it was a life changing experience, next to my kids being born. Sprayed some numming spray in my throat, said the throat looked good, it was very "clean" and dydrated and said it should heal within 4-5 days nicely. Drove him like a new man. I could breath out of my nose !! That night, took bath, did not eat, drank alot of water, took tylenol and slept off an on for about 3 hours. Could not "fall asleep" as I did not know how to breath through my nose and still did so through my mouth, so rough night.
Day 9: Went to work today early, no sleep from night before. Boss real understanding told me to leave at 3. Driving home very light headed, should not have worked 8 hours. Too much, too weak, no sleep, not healthy. Got home and literally passed out for 2 hours. Work up, took bath, wife and I decided to stick with tylenol products and asked our local pharmacist about adult liquid tylenol, he suggested a new product Tylenol Sorethroat and Flu, it's blue liquid. I took 2 tbls at 9:30, and slept until 4 am uninteruppted, got up and ****** (
), went back to bed till 5:30. Best sleep in 9 days. about 7 hours total.
Day 10: Something has happened this morning and today, feel better, can actually swallow, spit nasel congestion up without blood, and at lunch drank sweet tee, (on ice) with chicken noodle soup and ate the noodles. This is a milestone, have been able to swallow until now. Will stick to tylenol. Took 1000 mg at lunch, and feel the best of any day. Noticed that the white bombs in the throat are beginning to disappear, must have dropped over night down the pipe.
Day 11: will see tomorrow
1. worst experience, pain, horror, and misery in my life. As close to hell on earth as possible.
2. if you are my age, and a male, slightly overweight, with sleep apnea, try the cpap mask and make it work, otherwise this, and it sucks.
3. drink as much water as possible. never had value for water as much as I do now.
4. If you can't take the demirol or prescribed "pain" medicines, try plain ole tylenol, I know it sounds weird, but it works. Min of 650 mg, but generally 1000 mg (two tablets) take the pain away for 2 hours
5. You realistically with my type of extreme surgery will not feel any better until 10 days after the surgery, so get ready for the ride.
6. A couple of side effects from the meds, scratch skin on back, extreme teeth pain, pain in my ears (both like a really bad ear ache or having a tooth pulled), and no drinking of cold liquids.
7. I could not eat cold popsickles, or ice cream. Made teeth and ears hurt worse
thanks. I hope this helps someone
