Title: Firefox x64
Post by: M@t on Saturday November 13, 2010, 08:03:55 AM
It seems that firefox 4 is somewhere around the corner.

I've downloaded an x64 beta 8, and it looks great!

Is anyone else using the Firefox platform on x64? What do you think?

I used to be an avid fan of FF (version 1), but then it started to get really bloated, kept crashing at the worst possible times and became less reliable. I was really gutted at the problems.
I tried re-installations, updates, plug-ins etc but it just didn't seem to have the same va-va-voom as the old version.

It'll be nice to see what we get with FF4. I'll certainly give it a fair go

Well, a quick update...

I had a few issues with Adobe's x64 Flash player ("Square"), whereby it'd crash instead of actually playing the Flash object.

A bit of an issue, since just about every website seems to have something Flash on it these days. That one has now fixed itself, and it's running sweet now.

Despite a few glitches here and there, I much prefer FF over IE.

I am using 3.6.12.

PS Ooops, just realized you are talking about 64 bit......... ::)

Jane,

I'm sure there's a 32 bit version of Firefox 4 out there... I only loaded the 64 bit version because I'm on 64 bit windows...

OK... here is the link for the 32 bit version

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-4.0b8pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/firefox-4.0b8pre.en-US.win32.installer.exe)

But be warned... It's not a final release. Whilst I'm happy enough running it, your experience may be different...

Hi Uncle Matt,

I'm quite happy with what I have for now. FF usually updates when *it* has something that needs to be changed/added.
