My granuloma annulare - maybe this helps?
« on: Wednesday August 04, 2004, 06:44:30 PM »
Hi everyone!  This is my first post, sharing some info.  I look forward to participating in a forum where people can relate to what it's like to have an ugly skin condition!   :-[

I have had GA since my early 20's (I'm 36 now).  It has gotten worse with each pregnancy/birth.  I finally tried the very strong steroid creme - this may be the generic name, but - clobetasol propionate cream, USP, 0.05%.  I used it twice a day for a couple of months, until it started burning my skin so I stopped.  But then, a few days later, the rings disappeared!  Now, a few months later, it just looks like a tan area on my ankles, like I used too much fake tanner there, but hey, it's so much better than the rings!

Here's something else:  I have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  According to web sites I've seen on GA, thyroid disorders can be linked to GA.  My hypo symptoms have been around since my mid-teen years but have worsened after each of my 2 babies were born, especially since my last, 3 years ago.  This is also when my GA has been at its worst ever.  I am now on synthroid, and I am curious to see what happens with the GA as my hypo gets cured.  Are any of you other GA sufferers also hypothyroid or suffer symptoms of hypo but have not been diagnosed?  FYI, although my TSH test came back "normal" last year, a FULL panel & ultrasound this year finally revealed the problem.

[b]I have also had my GA disappear (well untill now) its just come back.

I got a medication called ' Helainer Tape' not sure of the spelling but it is pronounced as its wrote.

Only dermotolgists can perscribe the tape the doc can give you the cream but iy dosent work,  I had 45 little rings all over my legs it looked awaful.

After using this tape it all cleared up, it took about 2months I was delighted

Has anyone else used it?

Hi there,

I have GA going on for about a year and a half.  Started on my back neck and chest, faded on the chest but it is totally in a run away state now. Covered from rib cage, arms, thighs down legs front and back of knees to top of feet.  A mess!  What's your thought on the tape that helped you working on that large an area?

May I ask who your dermatologist was?

Appreciate any new ideas.

Thanks!

I have GA. and would love to get rid of it without drugs (they make my skin crawl.) I've been looking for more natural cures. Is there any thing out there that has worked for someone else?
The Helainer Tape sounds interesting. My dermo didn't mention that as a possible treatment.
Searching for a cure. :)

Hi Suzy2,

I agree with you concerning finding a natural remedy.  I have been given large tubes of steroid creams but the way my GA is running wild I would need vats.  Right now I just changed health providers and will have to go through the whole process of seeing a primary doc and then getting a referral to I hope a specialist in dermatology on my health plan. I'll inquire about the tape when I land a new dermatologist.  Probably a specialist who knows anything about GA won't be on an HMO.  But then again I was on a PPO and none of the Dermatologist had any new thought either.

Right now all I am doing is using Aveeno moisturizing lotion to calm this mess down.  I look like a road map with moon craters right now.  The lotion has softened the ridges a bit.

Trying to keep a sense of humor.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I hope I am responding to any replys correctly as I keep getting E-mails saying I have to read the prior E-mails before getting new ones.  I think I got it right this time. Any hints would be appreciated.  I would not want to miss any posts/Emails that are being sent my way.  Got to admit  I am not the most technically knowledgeable computer person.  Probably.... it comes down to just reading directions.

Hi NOHO! Nice to know there is someone else out there who bears this burden. :)
Have you ever  personally met anyone with our condition? I sometimes feel like a leper. Nobody has ever heard of it and even the dermotologist who diagnosed me wasn't very knowledgeable.
I would love to find a doctor who had patients who had experienced it and who they had treated (successfully).
I just find it hard to believe that there isn't some way to get rid of it. What am I doing wrong that so many people (who don't have it) are doing right?
My 18 year old daughter says "Oh live with it! It's what's inside that counts.) I try to remember that when yet another person says "What happened to your.....(submit body part)?

Hang in there!
Searching for a cure. :)

Hi again Suzy2.

I have not as yet met anyone in person with GA. There are quite a few kindred spirits on Skin Cell who are kind enough to share their GA stories.  However the two Dermatologist I saw, one in NY and one in WA had patients with it,  but you're right about the fact that the Docs believe what they read about it in med journals, in that no one knows what to do about it or what causes it.  Both  docs basically knew statistics on GA... such as... it can go away in a year all by its self or, maybe in about 15 years?  You can tell your daughter it's not fun running around looking like a road map!  Especially if you like wearing shorts and tank tops in hot weather.  I think it's probably that she does not want you to stay upset over this condition, my sister makes similar comments.

Good to hear from you, if I discover anything new in the quest to rid us and the world of GA be sure I'll get it on Skin Cell ASAP.

Hi,

I have had GA for 10+ years on my elbows and have never had any success with steroid creams, etc.  This summer my GA spread to the inside of my upper arm so I went to my dermatologist who recommended a natural remedy which I thought was crazy but I was desperate so I tried it.  He recommended that I drink 1 oz of raw apple cider vinegar twice a day so about two weeks ago I went to the health food store and bought the raw apple cider vinegar (not the same as the ones in the supermarkets).  I put 1 oz of apple cider vinegar in 16 oz water and add a little honey just to make it taste a little better and I drink that twice a day.  Well it has been two weeks and my granuloma annulare is almost totally gone!  I can't believe it!  After all these years of people saying to me "what happened to your elbows!?"  I also bought a book about raw apple cider vinegar and apparently it is quite good for you... it is cleansing to your system eliminating toxins, etc.  My dermatologist wasn't even sure why it worked but he read that a well known dermatologist has had much success with this remedy.  It has worked for me and if anyone can tolerate drinking the vinegar I highly recommend trying it to see if it works for you too.  I am just so happy with the results that I felt that I had to pass it on to everyone else suffering with this crazy skin condition.  Hope it helps. :)

Hello and welcome any forum participant !
I 'm new in this forum, Hungary . 8 months ago suffering from the symptoms of granuloma annulare . Suddenly came the hives to me in April . In March, I had an accident , I fell and fractured my wrist pieces, underwent surgery with a plate and six screws holding together . According to the dermatologist from the trauma as well. I went to research foci , it's fine with me . Just checked out the " irons " out of my hand to see if it causes . 55 is rash , mainly on the back of my thigh , ankle , foot , knee and elbow of both very nasty . So far, 25 PUVA treatments received, and Dermovate steroid cream on it , it is not really used , I decided that I start to detoxify myself. I bought the raw apple cider vinegar , but I do not see that every day should drink 1-1 ounces twice , but how much should be diluted with water ? Szaunázok In addition , it might help , and kidney - liver detox started ( kidney cleansing tea for two weeks, then comes the liver) http://www.b17hu.info/meregtelen.html
very hopeful that it will help, turmeric and ground cloves mixed with little water or solvents, making it easier to drink. I'm still here, if I do it over the course of treatment, then write to the board that was so effective?
Regards, Edit
