i've had a really painful big toe over the last couple of days. Its keeping me awake at nights and is so bad i cant bend it and i'm favouring my other foot as i dont want to put any pressure on my toe. I've rubbed volterol cream into it and also taken painkillers but it still hurts! I havent bashed it, as far as i know havent got my mate mr arther itis in it...so could this be gout? What is gout? How can it be treated if it is gout? Thanks all xxxx

Hvns, the problem I seem to be having with it, is that it has gotten so tough and thick, that it is hard to cut a clean edgee straight across, even with the special heavy duty clippers I bought, what next ? the angle grinder ?

I know! Okay this is what I do (keeping in mind mine are not thick) 1) soak foot for 30 min this allows the nail to soften and mind 2) my "took kit" encludes big clippers-small clippers with the thing on it-tweezers-push pin I clip off a big area and use the rest for all the fine digginin and getting way down to where the nasty bit that causes all the ruckuss. I just alternate "tools" That is it, that is my method

I'll give that a go then Hvns, I have been putting it off so long now cos it hurts so much what a big baby eh ? It does seem to have lost some of the redness, I think the spikey bit has grown past the bit where it sticks in. Got some lovely nail varnish for my tootsies yesterday too, so theres incentive, but argh my right arm bad again today
