Many of you are probably aware of the skin condition keratosis pilaris. According to many estimates, it affects 40-50% of the world's population. In most cases, it takes the form of bumps on the backs of the arms, but in a significant number of cases, it affects the whole body. Some of us have red bumps all over -- including on our faces. Despite the fact that it affects so many people, KP is not well understood. Very little research has been done to understand its causes, which are thought to be genetic, though even that isn't certain.
