Hey, I'm 30 and have been suffering with the same problem for as long as I can remember. I have it on my ass and thighs. Gobe the Moderator, found a site for me to look at and found that my specific condition is called Lichen Spinolosus. I'm gonna try cutting out dairy and wheat and also try Neuotrgena, as suggested here. Don't give up hope, you may be blessed with the skin you wish for.

OMG Ive had those bumps on the back of my arms and legs for years, I just thought It was my skin... I had no Idea there was a name for it. It doesnt bother me on the arms, but it does hurt when I nick the ones on my legs shaving. But after reading the links here and some on the net it makes since cause I do have over dry skin and no amount of lotion is ever enough? I wonder if its HS related to?

I am also in the UK & just been diagnosed with KP. I thought I had some sort of allergy since I was a teenager (I'm now 33) but have only now seen my doctor as I'm bridesmaid at a wedding & wearing a sleeveless dress.
I was fed up not wearing short sleeved tops & stupidly thought I'd visit the doctor, get anit-biotics or steriods & it would clear. She referred me to a dermatologist who said I had KP. I was really shocked. I know it's not a life threating but to know it will probably never go away upset me.
The doctor gave me Eucerin which seems to have made it 100 times worse. I've tried to buy the Neutrogena Skin Smoothing Lotion but it only seems to be available in the US. Can anyone help?

Hi, I am new to the forum as I actively tried to find one this morning to post my new find in the way of a really useful cream - effective after the first use. Its call Palmers Coco Butter Formula (relieves dry skin) It won't get rid of all the marks to the eye but the skin is notibly smooth and soft after use. I have KP on the back of my arms and have done so for as long as I can remember and this by far is proving the most useful. I bought it Sainsburys for £2.55 and it doesn't smell too bad either!
Thanks Giovanni

By the way, their are lots available so the one I found useful for KP is Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E (relieves, rough dry skin or it may come under Heals and softens rough, dry skin) Good Luck

actually what helps the little bumps has been this new scrub I got....from the body shop...Mango Bdy Scrub. I still notice redness but it is softer...Is it true that this is common amongst Europeans, such as Irish people? I think someone told me that once.

Yes it is true that KP is common among people with celtic origins: http://www.dermnet.org.nz/acne/keratosis-pilaris.htmlI outgrew my own KP in my late twenties. Glad to hear the scrub is working for you.

I had KP since I could remember. Always on my upper arms. I'm 54 now and can say that I haven't had it for about 5 years. I think it's something that you eventually outgrow. I would recommend putting lots of moisturizer on the affected area. I also noticed some improvement when I started running cold water at the end of my shower ... for about 30 seconds if you can stand it.

reading this made me want to cry. Im 18 and ive had kp since i can remember and its tormented me EVERY SINGLE DAY. i have avoided going to the beach and outside on hot days when i cant wear sleeves, ive cancelled plans with friends and boys if my arms might be seen or touched and i dont buy or wear clothes if they dont have sleeves that reach my elbow. other than my KP i also have great skin, but because of it my skin is still what bothers me the most about my body. You should try rubbing aloe on it though because it kindof reduces the bumps (although not completely) and eucerine intensive repair body creme makes them less rough.

Hi skylark, there are creams and lotions containing glycolic acid and/or alpha hydroxy acids that can help smooth the bumps of kp. However, they must not be used on broken skin as they will sting like mad! Good luck.
