I started to write this for a role-playing game I'm involved in, but it kinda turned into something more. My little role-playing character isn't the only one who is struggling with the concept of finding a new home at the moment. :P I'm actually pretty happy with it. it feels therapeutic.

I wrote the chorus first, realized I was signing it, racked my brains until I found the tune, and wrote the verses to fit. I am rubbish at melody... the only way I can compose is if I shut my eyes and plunk piano keys at random. So I borrowed this tune from Lionel Richie. (Hey, if you're gonna borrow a tune, go for the good stuff...)

We're heading to a foreign, distant land
With a culture and a language I don't understand.
I've found home in places that I've never been
Have I got the heart to open it again?

My home's in Alabama
And part of Tennessee
Nearly half of Georgia
Virgina's calling me
Calling me home to California
Or perhaps New Mexico
Someplace deep in Costa Rica
I call home.

I'm packing up my life and memories
Purging out my house all signs of me
This new place is adventurous, I know.
But how long before I call it "home?"

I know that with some time I'll settle in
Start to feel some joy and make some friends
So please be patient, my far, future home
I know I'll include you in my song!

Thanks. :hugs:

I told Dan that he needs to put his arm around me at night and tell me how much fun Germany is going to be. I really didn't think I would be so... less than totally thrilled about the prospect. And with all the cleaning and painting and packing, I need to be reminded that even if it's not fun now, it's going to be worth it.
