I was diagnosed with TV when I was 19. I was told, by Dr. Scully in 1982 that it is a germ that everyone has on their body, but only active in some. He took me into a dark closet in his office, shined a small black light on my skin and pointed to the tiny things glowing on my skin, then stated, "You have Tinea Versicolor". He gave me a soap bar called ZPF, but it didn't work, then he gave me a prescription for 1% Selsun to lather, leave on for 5 minutes, the rince off. It worked, but it took 10 applications, some hair fell out and it always came back after a few months. Seemed like it was worse in the hot summer months. Later, he prescribed 2.5% Selsun. That was fine, not much hair was loss, but it always came back. Years later, I found Selsun shampoo at the General Dollar store. It had 5% Selsun in it. Took longer to work and no hair fell out and I found that using a conditioner made my hair feel nice and lotion for my skin. 2011, I went down to Key West, FL for my honeymoon, went swimming in there pool twice. A few days later, I noticed my TV was gone. I asked the hotel mgr what they put in the pool. She said, "We don't use chlorine, because it evaporates, so we use pool salt instead. My TV still comes back, but now I have better way to maintain it. I can tan in the summer without blotch skin, because I buy a bag from Wal-Mart and use it in my tub over the winter when I see it rear it's ugly head. Now, I'm 50 yrs old and I have been dealing with Tinea Versicolor for more than 30 years. I think I found the bestway to care for it, but if there's a cure, I'm open to see if it will work. I also tried the antifungal creams, but it left me feeling greasy and itchy. I took pics, do if anyone wants to see, I welcome you to contact me. I have never scratch at it, so it's not irritated looking, besides I'm diabetic. I can't afford infection issues.
