New Forum
« on: Thursday June 21, 2012, 03:51:22 PM »
Dear Members,

I have been working behind the scenes for a couple of weeks on upgrading the forum, and today is the go-live.

The software running the forum has been updated to the new version. This provides a newer, cleaner interface using more up-to-date HTML. In addition, there are a number of extra admin functions to make life easier for admins and moderators.

However, there have been a couple of issues, which were unavoidable. Firstly, the upgrade to the gallery didn't go as planned on the live system, so I've had to start from scratch on that one. I still have all the pictures that were uploaded, and any photos that depict skin conditions may be re-uploaded into the skin disorders gallery, but personal galleries won't be restored, since there are far too many of them, plus many of the users have not been active for a number of years, and it's trimmed the space usage of the website down a bit.

Individual users are more than welcome to request their files for re-uploading by themselves. Of course, if you still have originals, you are more than welcome to create a new gallery for yourself.

Also, due to very limited usage, I haven't integrated the chat system with the new forum software. If there are strong objections, I will look at finding a suitable program to use.

In the mean time, enjoy the new forum guys!

I've now fixed the template to put the custom title after the post group, so for you, CJ, it now reads "Skincell Grand of Whimsy", rather than "of Whimsy Skincell Grand".

Also changed the little icon underneath this. It was a silver star, but in keeping with the rest of the forum theme, it's now a silver square.

Also changed the wording on the main page Child boards -> Subsections

Hi Everyone,

Bama mentioned that there was a double-click to top function that has disappeared after the upgrade.

I've searched around a bit in the admin logs and found the bit to tweak. However, since the new forum software is substantially different from the old, it might not work in exactly the same way.

Have a play, and let me know if it's OK or not.

Matt

Edit to add...

Usual rules apply with regards to clearing caches etc, as the file that has been modified will, almost certainly, be cached on your hard drive.

Yay!! It works!! :hugs: Thank you!

I can't help it... it was such a silly thing, but I missed it. Thanks so much for putting it back. And apologies to anyone who is now saying "dangit, Bama, I hated that!"

I never knew what you were talking about in the first place, so it doesn't matter to me :-)
