HS what helps me.
« on: Saturday February 12, 2011, 12:10:18 PM »
Lets cut to the chase.
When the boils are at their worst I soak in a hot bath--when I say hot I mean hot--it takes the stinging away almost immediately have been known to take up to 5 hot baths a day. Yes kinda turns you withered and looking like a prune--the relief from the stinging makes it well worth it. For approx 5mths now I have been using turmeric powder. I have found when my underarm is swollen and red a paste made from turmeric powder and water helps the swelling go down and decreases the stinging. I use turmeric in my cooking and if things are really bad I put it on my sandwiches normally using about a half teaspoon. I have found for myself these things have been working extremely well.

I do not use any kind of soap or deodorants. I use a type of rock salt in a spray bottle for underarms and this helps greatly with perspiration smells--can sting something terrible if you spray it on when the skin is broken.
I have gloves that exfoliate the skin and give my body a good rubbing all over when I shower--and yes also when i have a bath. Actually I get these from our $2 shop they are not so harsh they irritate my skin.
I have really bad blackheads and no amount of face scrubs(not that I can use many) has ever managed to get rid of these---I have dry skin and suffer eczema as well. Keeping my skin moisturized is not easy--have tried many home made natural cremes and sorry most of them have failed my skin reacts. Non perfumed non alcohol types of cremes are the best I read carefully what is in them and never buy an expensive creme as most times I react to them.

Over the years I have tried many things-- have had many different antibiotics. Three years ago my specialists(I had 2) told me they couldn't help me anymore-- everything they know of they had tried and nothing had worked they didn't know what else they could do or give me to help--I believe most of us who have had HS for sometime have come to realize that it is only us who can help ourselves with this disorder--what may work for one may not work for another--we continue to try what others have tried in the hope we will find something that will help even if only for a while and then we're off and looking again to find something else.

I hope my few little tips will be of help to others.  :)

You might  be low in zinc.  A lot of us with HS take a zinc supplement everyday.  Dry skin is also a sign of low zinc.

HS and your other skin conditions might be helped with a change in diet.  If you read my post above where I replied to mslunar you will see the foods that a lot of us are avoiding.  There are quite a few people now seeing success with a change in diet.
wishing you the best.

Have you tried Witch Hazel?  I have found in the past when a boil first starts by applying witch hazel for 8 straight hours on it will reduce the redness and help it heal.  I'm new to this site and just reading posts about HS.  :)  Best wishes
