I've been prescribed both now in an effort to combat my psoriasis and incredibly aggressive bodily acne. Mino in pills for a period of three months, and Clobet in a cream for a little under two weeks.

Needless to say, the side effects are enough to make anyone extremely paranoid. I went out today and bought probiotic pills (Seriously, antibiotics for three months???), some serious (but gentle) sunscreen and many hats in order to combat the summer sun, and I'm just crossing my fingers that my pigmentation doesn't go all out of whack. Does anyone have any experience with either drug? Can anyone please tell me I have nothing to worry about?

Much appreciated!

Hi Avital,

Don't know about your antibiotics but I've used clobetasol propionate for eczema a few times on my body, generally for 1-2 week bursts.  No one can tell you not to be careful because obviously the risk of side effects is always there, but I've never had any problems from it.  If you're only using it on your body (not your face/neck) for short periods of time (eg less than 2 weeks), with longer breaks in between, then I wouldn't be too concerned.  It would be a good idea to go back after a few months to let your doctor know how much cream you're using on average per month.

Topical steroids do have serious side effects but these are rare unless you use potent creams on your face, or continuously for several weeks on your body.  In some cases you can still use potent steroids on the face or for longer periods on the body but you would need to discuss the dangers very carefully with your doctor because the risk of side effects increases significantly in those cases.

Hope that helps,
Graham.

Hi,

I have taken the Minocycline in the past for facial acne. I was prescribed it for a period of several months. I ended up developing an allergy to it but prior to that I didn't have any other health issues from it. I did some reading prior to taking it and from what i could tell it was different from the type that you might take for something like an ear infection for example. Sorry I couldn't give you more info about it. Hope that helps a little.
