In spite of the obstacles ahead, I look upon this particular inauguration with considerable optimism.  I don't know how many tjroughout the world were able to see the whole inaugural speech.  For those who only saw pieces, the entire speech is on the To Obama blog.  http://www.toobama.blogspot.com

I don't recall such a feeling of anticipation of a favorable turning point in history for 48 years.  This is a turning point we will long remember.

I spent more time yesterday watching TV than I do in a month.  Grin  What a jumble of emotions!  Joy in the day, hope for the future, a tiny bit of satisfaction knowing my little vote helped bring this man to this office.  The road ahead will be a long and difficult one, but change is in the wind!

I'm  from London England,   " where are you from ?" is a gang member greeting in London  ,and is usually followed by a nasty assault if you respond that  you are from the wrong neighbourhood.

Oh heavens! Hide I promise I'm not going to assault you. I was just all curious to know where you live... we have people living all over the world that come to Skincell. Smiley

I'm a little wary of Israel myself, and they let me live here. For one more day, anyway... OMG I hop the plane tomorrow... Faint

hi Thanks Bamawing and Totalfolly for your kind explanations. I was kind of hoping that the "where you from ? " thing was quite funny , maybe its an urban thing.
I was really impressed by B O saying he wasnt going to torture people anymore and also to close G Bay today.

In my previous post is some unequivocal optimism that flies in the face of some obvious serious difficulties.  A lot of dark clouds on the horizon.

But having just recently made a connection with my long lost daughter, and firming up preparations to regain my vision, finally, after a couple of years of very worthwhile delay, well suffice it to say, I am having a lucky year.

The obstacles were, and still are significant.  The fight for the house, the possibility for any unforeseen emergency, and so on.

On the other hand, once I can see, I can drive and many new options are once again available.

I guess what I am getting at is this.  Even challenging events can, and often do turn out well.  And keeping those successes in mind can help to fortify you while you are dealing with grim daily disasters.

I'll talk about this more over on the Anthropositor Hires A Surgeon thread.  Hiring that first surgeon seemed more and more like a disaster.  But the disaster was only potential.  And what finally happened gives much greater prospects for a favourable outcome.

Success favors the prepared mind!  If that is the case, then the anticipation of success is vital for a good outcome.

Yesterday President Obama gave a prime time news conference.  Since many in the world might not have been able to see more than fragments of it, it is on the To Obama blog in its' entirety.
http://toobama.blogspot.com/
Soon I will be able to see again with one eye.  Then, with a little luck and some help from my friends this blog will begin to evolve even more markedly than it already has.  I have at least a dozen things in mind which cry out to be tried.  It is apropos that I shall regain my sight as my country develops a new vision after coping with an extended and demoralizing blindness.

The announcement of Obama's Nobel Prize had all the talking heads wondering how he could possibly have deserved it and lamenting that it was premature.  I think not.  Obama overcame long odds, becoming the first black man to become President.  He took office after a singularly severe world-wide financial crisis not of his own making.  Many of his opponents now wish to blame him entirely for the deficit crunch.  Although I too had reservations about the absence of adequate safeguards to assure the proper distribution of the TARP funds, the truth is, total immediate collapse of the financial system was averted.

Most of the talking heads know very little about what they are talking about.  But they can certainly do it entertainingly.

I endorse the perspective of Naomi Klein in her comprehensive and informative book, "The Shock Doctrine."  In this book, she establishes very clearly the roots of the economic crisis, going back more than three decades.  She more than made her case.
