« on: Sunday November 02, 2008, 07:14:05 PM »
So, what was the last movie you watched?

The last thing I watched was The seven year itch (not a new movie, but it's great  ;D)
With care,

Awake

Wasnt keen at first because I thought, how much of a film can you do about being awake throughout an operation ? but actually it was pretty good with a great twist in the tale. It has the actor who played Anakin from Star Wars as the starring role.

Brideshead Revisited.

It was good, but I preferred the old TV series with Jeremy Irons & Anthony Andrews.

Oooh... Missed this thread!

Rented the new version of Journey to the Centre of the Earth last weekend.  It was fantastic in 3D at the cinema, but slightly less impressive at home.

We're all really looking forward to the new James Bond film coming out next weekend (Quantum of Solace), and then the newest Harry Potter film at the end of the month...

andyb, the boy in the striped pyjamas has gotten fantastic reviews here, but it seems a bit too depressing for me... and I agree, Cinema Paradiso is an amazing movie.

And if anyone is looking for a fun, offbeat and very Canadian movie I really liked Bon Cop Bad Cop...  a serious, private-school-educated, English speaking dectective from Toronto and a French speaking, street-wise, jaded, ordinary-Joe cop from Quebec are forced to pair up to solve a series of murders, and the common connection between the all the victims is their involvement with the NHL (National Hockey League).  Really well done!

Oh my, I have a feeling that'd effect me like The diary of Anne Frank, very good but heart wrenching. I have a feeling I'd end up in tears. I'll end up watching it though, I will rent it some time..

At the movies: The Dark Knight

At home last night:  Airplane II The Sequel

Simon: Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet your captain, Captain Oveur.
Clarence Oveur: Gentlemen, welcome aboard.
Simon: Captain, your navigator, Mr. Unger, and your first officer, Mr. Dunn.
Clarence Oveur: Unger.
Unger: Oveur.
Dunn: Oveur.
Clarence Oveur: Dunn. Gentlemen, let's get to work.
Simon: Unger, didn't you serve under Oveur in the Air Force?
Unger: Not directly. Technically, Dunn was under Oveur and I was under Dunn.
Dunn: Yep.
Simon: So, Dunn, you were under Oveur and over Unger.
Unger: Yep.
Clarence Oveur: That's right. Dunn was over Unger and I was over Dunn.
Unger: So, you see, both Dunn and I were under Oveur, even though I was under Dunn.
Clarence Oveur: Dunn was over Unger, and I was over Dunn.

Well if you like Daniel Craig you will love it :)

DH and I both thought that it was good, but not as good as Casino Royale.

TV:
Star Wars episode four - A New Hope - is it just me or is this now looking rather dated?

but I still remember that opening sequence for the first time many years ago at the cinema where Princess Leia's ship comes in across the top of the screen and you think WOW!  :o look at the detail etc. Impressive! - but what's it firing at? something pursuing it maybe?

And then Darth Vader's Star Destroyer appears across the top of the screen and gets bigger and bigger - and bigger - utterly dwarfs Leia's ship - jaw dropping WOW!! :o  :o

I'll never forget that

Alien v Predator - scary in places but not as scary as when I first saw this a few years ago in the cinema - especially when the pyramid starts re-arranging itself - I'm not good with enclosed spaces...

:o Star Wars IV, a bit dated ? Wash your mouth out Andy !  Okay, so maybe a little ? But it brings back such warm childhood memories. You have to just remember how incredible it was for the year. I still think IV,V and VI  were better than I and II. For me tho, THE ULTIMATE Star Wars moment was sitting in the cinema, first screening of Revenge of the Sith, surrounded by geeks, Anakin standing up for the first time as Darth Vader ! You could of heard a fly fart. I had to stop myself from jumping to my feet and punching the air

I agree with you AVP was pretty good viewing at the cinema too. You cant beat the experience, but sadly I dont get there very often these days.

Shlindlers List is my rack too, and if you liked that Andy, you might like The Pianist too ?

Our Sunday Matinee this week was Miss Potter, hankies at the ready  :)

Ah The Pianist - yes I have that as well - unforgettable - cried too

Incredible piano playing - put's my meagre efforts to shame...

and did you shout NOOO! like me when Szpilman emerged from hiding in the ruins as the Allies approached and was shot at cos he was still wearing that German Officer's coat?

I have 'A taste of honey' (1961) lined up for watching next...

O Yes Andy, it would of been a terrible end if they had of opened fire, after all he had been through....but then he wouldnt of been able to write the book, it being a true story  ;)

If you like Adrien Brody...have you seen The Jacket ?

I havnt seen A Taste of Honey, but it sounds interesting going by the revue on Imdb

hmmmm.....I think I might give 'Children of Men' another go next, the one thing that makes me uneasy on top of everything else in that film, is Clive Owen wandering around in a pair of flip flops  ;D

no, but if you're recommending it, it'll go on the list...

this is the film that introduced Rita Tushingham. Started watching it last night - I love these films, not just for the story, but because they record life as it was when I were young - in this case Manchester and Blackpool in 1958 (OK a bit too far back for me  ;) ). You're able to say to the kids "Granny had a car just like that" as a Vauxhall Victor rolls past; "look how empty the streets looked - no cars - just children playing. I'ts a pity you don't you go out and play with your friends like that instead of chatting on MSN? (too many cars of course...); "I remember that skipping rhyme - the girls at our school used to chant that in the playground"; "Look at all those factory chimneys dotted about - and look at all that smog..." etc...
Those were the days... *sigh*

hmmmm.....I think I might give 'Children of Men' another go next, the one thing that makes me uneasy on top of everything else in that film, is Clive Owen wandering around in a pair of flip flops  ;D
:shudder: perhaps he ought to take a hint from your screen name  ;)
