Hi All

For anyone who is interested, I have signed up to run 10k on October 5th. At present I can run for approximately 30 seconds before I feel like I have to stop. It's going to be tough.

I have a sponsorship page here http://www.run10ksponsorme.org/rebeccaemin which also links to my Facebook group. I'm going to need all the encouragement I can get so please do feel free to offer me any advice on running - I need it!

I have already started training, so with just under 4 months to go, I hope I can do it...

This is such hard work. I am keeping an exercise log so I can look back on it eventually and see my progress. I am running 3/4 times a week and swimming and walking too. I don't think I have stopped aching since the Race for Life as I just haven't stopped.

I wish I wasn't so ridiculously unfit  Undecided  Sad

Keep hanging in there Woo, the fittest I ever was when I was in my late thirties after having 3 kids ... and I was pretty fit too, it can be done and having a goal like a run is a great motivator   Cool

Well it's time for a progress report! I have been training and last night I ran my usual route (about 4.2km) without walking once, for the first time ever. I was so delighted... I can hardly believe that just over a month ago I had to walk after about every 10 seconds of running.

I am doing a 5km Race for Life on Sunday 27th July to see how my training is going and this time I'm hoping to run it all, instead of walking it like I did the last one. Then I just have to double my distance by October   Undecided

On the serious side, my Godmother is now seriously ill with Cancer and I am going to visit her on Saturday morning. She is one of the people who inspired me to take up running for the charity. I think it will be quite hard to see her as ill as she is but I do want to see her nevertheless.

So, that's my update...

Hi ladies, thanks for the good wishes. It's actually my God mother but the sentiments are the same. I have known her since I was a child (she has been my Mums friend since they were young). She really is very ill and it was quite difficult seeing her in the hospice.

For my 5 km run on Sunday I'm going to write the names of everyone I know with Cancer on my back plate. It's quite a long list   Sad  One of them will actually be there on Sunday though (coincidence) so it will be lovely to see her (if I do).

It's a matter of days apparently  Cry

I am doing a Race for Life at 4pm today and it is meant to be 28 degrees C.  This is just typical of my luck. I don't expect a very fast time but will let you know how I get on.

Timing couldn't be more poignant really considering my poor Godmother... I am not sure how I will cope with reading everyone's back panel messages but I think there will be a few tears to say the least.

Have a good day everyone.

I did it, despite temperatures over 30!!!

I had to walk a bit of it as it was just so ridiculously hot, but I finished in 37 minutes 42 seconds. So pleased with that as I have never run 5 km before and also I was expecting more like 45 minutes because of the heat.

So glad I did it.

The sad news is, my Godmother passed away today.  Cry She is in peace at last.

Thanks everyone, the funeral is on Monday so that will be tough.

On the more positive side, I have just signed up for another 5k race to see if I can run the whole distance this time. It's on 14th August and it's not a charity event so basically will be more competitive. I'll be happy to just finish but I'd be even happier if I wasn't last. We shall see.

It's my 5k race tonight! It's the third in a series of 3 and the times in the previous 2 were FAST.  Undecided I will definitely be at or near the back.

It's all chip timed and results published on the internet so I will be able to share that link with you when the time comes.   Smiley

Quite excited (and scared) and the forecast is for showers which is my favourite running conditions.

Still going strong with the training, and under a month to go now so getting quite excited about the 10k run.

I thought I would run it and that would be that, but running seems to have become a big part of my life now. Can't see me giving up any time soon    Grin

Well it's tomorrow, so please think of me at 10.30am UK time.

I heard a weather report earlier during which they said there is a severe weather warning for torrential rain in the area where the run is. How delightful!! Having said that I do like running in rain, so I could cope with that if it is not too cold.

I haven't actually run 10k before though, and I haven't been running much in the past few weeks due to colds and bugs... so it is going to be a real test.

 Undecided
