bunnie, say well done when I finish it!! DH came home tonight and said "so, you're going to run 5k" and it finally hit me that I... the-woman-who-can't-run... is doing this...  eek!!!

I think I'll have to start another thread about it somewhere... to record my training disasters.   Undecided

5k isnt that far Woo, we have the same race here, it is for Breast cancer research and is a great event. I have done it many times, and because it is for a cause there is a great atmosphere. Most people walk it and have a great day in the process.

Thanks LG and Matty. Believe it or not I am actually trying to mentally wind myself up into putting a lot of effort in. I've never been a good runner and I think it would be fantastic if I got fit enough to run the whole thing... but even if I don't I will be happy if I walk it.

I'll keep you updated and thanks for the encouragement   Smiley

I am so pleased as a friend of ours (actually our babysitter, but she is more like a family friend now) has said she will sign up and do the race for life with me. It will be good to have someone with me, even if she is practically half my age and much more fit.

More inspiration to train, I think!   Thumbs up

Hi Woo, the thing that was the best motivation when I used to run was for me to train with a training partner. Can you do part of a run with your babysitter? She may be willing to slow down for part of her run then when you drop out she can keep going so she still gets her run in.

Can you work out a 5k course and test your self on it each week? That is also a great motivator, if you do it a bit faster each week....

Hi Woo

just made my donation - it's a very worthy cause and well done for taking part Thumbs up

You're right when you say cancer affects all of us in some way - my neighbour survived breast cancer recently, my wife's cousin was in remission from a brain tumour but recently has discovered that it has come back and worse than before, my Great Aunt died from breast cancer late in life (she refused any treatment), another uncle died from skin cancer - hidden for many years by psoriasis, my father's brother from bowel cancer, a friend of my wife's down the road from stomach cancer leaving three young children, at the local Baptist church we prayed for a 19 year old with leukemia; at work, a colleague's first wife died from breast cancer, his second wife from Hodgkin's Disease (particularly sad as she was doing so well on the treatment until near the end)

Statistics show that 'in the U.S. and other developed countries, cancer is presently responsible for about 25% of all deaths. On a yearly basis, 0.5% of the population is diagnosed with cancer.'

Good luck with the run - or walk - whichever it turns out to be you'll be doing a great job Nod and we''ll be encouraging you all the way Clap Go! Woo Go! Clap

andyb Hugs

It's today at 2.30. Please think of me as I feel rough today... but hopefully the beautiful university parks will spur me on.

Thank you

I did it - we did walk but we did it in 53 minutes.

Going to sign up for next year and beat that time.

It was SO sunny and hot....

May post a photo if they are good. I think the official ones will be online midweek.
