Doublebase Moisturising Gel

There is a really good gel type moisturiser available (also on prescription.) Its called DOUBLEBASE. Its in a pump action bottle and it is used as a deep moisturiser, in pruritis in the elderly, psoriasis, eczema, and other skin conditions. It really is the tops, and the best I have ever used.

I was given Dermamist a spray moisturiser with only coconut oil and a tiny bit of liquid white paraffin, (so that I wouldn't have to physically apply it with my hands,and thereby exciting my condition through contact) it is excellent too but, however, this Doublebase has proved far better, so much so that I no longer have had to use the steroid creams on the raw areas.
This is what the leaflet says:-
Doublebase is a white moisturising base and has no fragrance.The gel contains two active ingredients, isopropyl myristate(15%) and liquid paraffin (15%). These form a barrier within the skin surface,trapping moisture in the skin thereby reducing dryness. The inactive ingredientsare glycerol, carbomer,sorbitan laurate, triethanolamine, phenoxyethanol and purified water.
It may be used in conjunction with other treatments.Doublebase has been made specially for use on dry problem skin such as eczema psoriasis and pruritis in the elderly , adults or children.
Doublebase is a highly moisturising and protective hydrating gel for regular and frequent use in the management of dry, itchy inflamed skin conditions.
It can be applied also, before showering or bathing, as well as after.

Bunnie, how greasy does this feel after application?

Absolutely none at all. The dermamist was a bit greasy till it "soaked in", but this is really good. I really have stopped needing to put on a steroid during the night, as I am not waking up itching.

At under twelve British pounds for half a kilogram pump bottle, it sounds as though you have quite a good thing going for you!

I don't have to pay for it anthro , i get it on prescription, and because i have a life-long disease i get them free. My derm is always willing to offer anything that makes his patients able to cope and to keep them generally comfortable.

Hi i have used Doublebase in the past, and i agree its very good, its not greasy at all and theres no sting to it.

No i havn't, ive used so many creams, oinments, epiderm was the worst one, it was like a lard, i had to 'cake' myself in it head to toe every night.Trying to sleep was imossible. Now im using 50/50 parfin, its alot better its more of an oil type consistancy and it soaks in quicker.

Well dermamist Mandy is in a spray. It has only a trace of liquid paraffin, and the rest is pure coconut oil.I was prescribed that because contact is a problem with my condition, and this is a spray as I said, so I don't have to smooth it in with my hands. I do now prefer the Doublebase however as it is not so greasy.

Hi Bunnie , I started my UVA treatment today and the nurse recommended i use Doublebase after my treatment as the uva can dry the skin, so glad to hear its not greasy as all the other lotions and potions i've tried have always made me feel like i was  ready for 25 minutes at gas mark 2 .
On another note i watched "The Green Mile" on tv last night , as i entered the derm clinic i noticed the floors were pink and as i walked down the corrider to enter the booth i suddenly thought to myself  I hope this isnt "The pink Mile".......silly me

Hey bonnie! Does doublebase gel work on the itch of atopic dermatitis?  I'm thinking of asking my dermatologist about it.

Yes it does . My condition is intensely itchy, and I couldn't sleep a whole night through for itching and having to put a thin layer of steroid on. I haven't honestly used my steroid cream (*Dermovate NN*, quite a strong steroid cream!) during the night since I used Doublebase. I have used my steroid cream during the night for the past 15 years, (very thinly I must add). It is also used for pruritis , especially in the elderly. It works by forming a barrier sealing moisture within and thereby preventing the skin from drying out and becoming more itchy. It also is not greasy at all, but your skin still feels moisturised for some time after application. I am really impressed with it

Thanks for the help! I will ask my dermatologist about it because I need something for the itch I can't sleep very good at night because of it. I haven't found anything that helps prescription or over the counter. It is driving me crazy it is hard to make it through the day for me without any or much sleep. Thanks again. I rang them just now and they told me they would post it to the states for no more than £20.98 UK Pounds about $40?? that includes the cost of the largest size 500gm in a pump action bottle. It is £21.98 to Australia. The gel does go a long way in terms of using it, and a 500gm bottle lasts a good while.

Oh Dear! Itchy! I actually found a site for eczema sufferers whilst googling for something else, and there were people from the states asking how they could get it. Apparantly at that time the pharmacy was not shipping abroad but they are now.

Hi Bunnie... my bottle arrived yesterday, and I have to say, I'm impressed right off the bat.  I had a lovely bath last night, and then right after I applied the Clobetasol and the Doublebase on top.  This morning I was still not itching and my skin felt well hydrated and smooth!  I really like the fact that it is unscented, too.

I too am a huge fan of Doublebase. Have been using it off and on since 2000. I do find however when my Roseca or folliculitis flares around my face it stings when I put it on so have to avoid it for a few days til things calm down.

Other than that I think its fantastic all over and go through the tub in about 6 weeks now that I am using it every day.

I would say it is safe to use on the face.  There isn't much in there to trigger a reaction, but he might want to try a small patch test area first, edy.
