After looking at different hotels we opted for Haven - Marton Mere because it was cheaper to stay there for the week than it was for the 2 nights in a hotel (family of 5)
.  Not sure if anyone else would be interested in this.  If you are maybe some of you could bunk up  Grin

We've booked for the 17th Sept until the 24th Sept cost £289.00.

Just to keep everyone in the picture, I'm adding a list of attendees to the thread. So far, we have:

Nick and Roni and kids,
Val and Bert,
Guzzi,
Andi,
Bigfoot (and family, I think),
ScottUK,
Paul and Rea,
Barry

and myself

If you are definitely coming, or I've got you down by mistake, add / subtract yourself to the bottom of the list.

There are a few good hotels in the area. Some are going to Haven at Marton Mere, Some are going to the Metropole, and there are plenty of B and Bs in the town centre. Further details will be confirmed later.

Ta...

Edited to add Barry

Roni, we stayed at Marton Mere last year. The caravan we had there was really good.

If you are wondering about accomodation, I can recommend the Polonez B'n'B. I've stayed there once before, and it was excellent value for money.

Well,

After consultation with Roni, it seems the best place to meet is the Haven complex at Marton Mere. I've never been there, so I'm not sure exactly where...

So, I'm planning to travel up on Saturday morning, and hopefully to a reccy to find the bestest family friendly place. I'm thinking about 4PM would be the best time, as it gives everyone plenty of travelling time, and we can all have some food at about that time.

If anyone knows a better place to meet, let us know Smiley. In the meantime, if anyone still interested in coming could drop me an e-mail (address in profile) with a mobile number on it, I can finalise details on the day, after I've checked the place out.

Keep on smilin' Grin

Me - Definitely Yes.

I've booked the BnB in Blackpool now.

I'm staying at The Polonez Hotel in Blackpool centre. It's about 4 miles from Marton Mere, so subject to my feet and plenty of beer, I'll walk home, otherwise a taxi is OK. Rate for the single room for one night is only £25, so it's a downright bargain!!!

Guzzi, I can strongly recommend this place. If you do decide to book there, let them know I recommended them, and they'll probably chuck an extra has brown on my breakfast Grin Wink

Kindest Regards,

Matt

As with most journeys, I can get to the town OK just by looking at the map, but the last few miles are a bit of a grey cloud, and I usually get lost...

Not this time, though, because I've picked up my aunt's sat nav system, so I can just type in the post code.

Guys I'm sorry to say this but I've just discussed with hubby and I think we're going to have to give it a miss this time.   Sad

We just came back from a holiday which was lovely, but it did make me realise how much stuff there is to pack and how tricky it is with 3 little ones. It is 4 hours by car each way for us to Blackpool so I think it will just be too much for a weekend.

Hopefully in future they will be a bit more manageable and we'll be able to make it some other time.

Sorry

So let's say I wanted to attend.  What airport would be my best choice in terms of price and proximity.  I've noticed that I can get a plenty cheap flight coming into Gatwick from Boston, and I've got the holiday time racked up that I must use or lose.
Anybody know if rental car insurance is silly expensive?
Feel free to PM me in addition to posting here.
Thanks!

Wow I would love to go, but unfortunately, I just read this thread,
and my own wedding anniversary is September 22 and we just booked other plans last week.

I know you people would be great to gather with, such a fabulous group.

Hey-what about that world traveler, ItchyChick> Hey girl, you went to Greece, you can probably make it to Rash Bash,  Tongue  I am just teasing you, I know you have a good sense of humor.

I hope everyone has a fun time, and please let us know how it went down.

(I am trying to think up an "American phrase" to befuddle Matt with)

 Oh, Okay, here's one:
Matt, I am just "Jagging your wires".  Grin

One day I am going to go to the UK and party on with the Rash Bash crew.

Hey Blue Sky!  I would love to go, but unfortunately this jet-setter has been grounded by real life demands once again (read: kids and finances!)

Maybe one day, Blue Sky, you and I both will make it across the pond for a Rash Bash - I suspect you're right... it will likely be a great party!

Hey-what about that world traveler, ItchyChick> Hey girl, you went to Greece, you can probably make it to Rash Bash,  Tongue  I am just teasing you, I know you have a good sense of humor.

I say we all go the sumemr of 2009... that's when I'm going, and it's plenty of time to save up/make plans.

Actually, that's not such a bad idea... I hate like anything that my trip is being postponed, but if more of y'all agreed to cross the Atlantic with me, it would make it all worth it. Or the Pacific... Liga, are you in? Smiley

Thanks!
K

Well, rental over here is usually about £140 for the weekend (Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon, Hertz.co.uk from LHR) Insurance is usually included in the price. Petrol from London to Blackpool and back would be about 3/4 of a tank each way, at about £35 a tank.

(I am trying to think up an "American phrase" to befuddle Matt with)

 Oh, Okay, here's one:
Matt, I am just "Jagging your wires".  Grin

Geez Louise, you got me with that one Grin

I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hey, this might actually provide a good excuse to fly that ubercheap Canadian airline... Hmmm... Smiley

Yay!! Going with you will make waiting worth it. Smiley And TF, I'm still going to pester you. 20009 will give you plenty of time to retire and save up... *pester pester pester*

I honestly can't remember what it was called, Itchy... all I remember was someone posting really insane prices... insane in a good way, you understand, as long as the planes were actually airplanes and not oversized balsawood gliders, propelled by a giant slingshot. Which wouldn't be out of the question, considering how low the prices were.

It may have been this one http://www.flyzoom.com/ which DH used in March.

I'm so glad you are talking 2009, as my children will definitely be more manageable by then.

I think it was flyzoom, Woo. Smiley $99 for one-way from Toronto? I think that's it, sure enough.

Come on, TF! by 20009, we'll be little ghosties and probably able to flit whereever we want! Laughing Out Loud

Liga, if you come, I'll budge up a bit on the balawood plane and draw you on the back!!

Heehee... I told Dan that we might be joining up with Itchy, and his eyes got pretty big. I think he's scared of slipping up and making fun of Canada in front of you, Itchy, in which case I've already threatened to whomp the poop out of him. Grin (Apparently in Wisconsin, making fun of Canada is an official state pasttime. I think he sees himself trying really, really hard not to chuckle if you say "aboot.")

and if I remember correctly I owe you (Guzzi) a very long sloppy raspberry on your ? ? ? ?  lol

It was a great meet up but unfortunately due to the kids bouncing off the caravan walls until 4am on Saturday morning we didnt really get to spend the time we wanted to with our lovely rashers.

Still there is always next time Smiley

Have to say I had a great time with Matt in the Space invaders and I'm so sorry you broke your hand bag (lol) at least you didnt lose any of your make up Wink

omg you have to see Daves handsome sons (wolf whistle) wow!  now there is a couple of heart breakers in the making Smiley  Dave as per usual was totally and utterly lovely and such a gentleman and Richard won a big winney the pooh and he gave it to kieran.  It was lovely.  Christopher was so polite and a real pleasure to talk to as for Richard well he has definately won Jessica over Wink

Val and Bert well they were Val and Bert ....... totally fantastic.

Next time I reckon we should all book into the same place so we can hang out on the evenings (as long as they take kids too)

Well my two sons want to know when the next one is !!.

It was a fun weekend and I agree that next time attempting to be all staying in one place would be better, more chance to chat.

The comments about Christopher and Richard certainly made them blush a little, but I as a proud dad thank you.
