I've reacted to foods contains Rosemary (from EO's) and even a pound cake made at Whole Foods.
I react to shampoos that have EO's. Cry

I was unable to deduce from either of the links above, exactly what is essential about essential oils. One can be allergic to many oils.

I believe "essential oil" refers to the distilled, concentrated oil from that particular plant. They are used for aromatherapy and for making perfumes, scenting cosmetics, etc...
