Well i would like to say a little more about my "glory days" as a cyclist but where to start? The beginning maybe Undecided .

Aged 13 my father bought me my first 10 speed racer and the follwing Sunday I rode 40 miles with The Cyclist Touring Club and I was hooked. It was another 3 years when i started working before the serious stuff began. At 16 I joined a racing club and began training in earnest. It was at this time that my potential became apparent. On the training rides I was the strongest on the hills despite my youth Cool.

March saw the start of the racing season and my first event was a 50 mile event at Rowlands Castle. By now my ego was far bigger than my ability and I fully expected to win my first event. After 30 miles I was dropped from the peleton due to exhaustion. I thought I could just ride hard at the front and drop everyone Roll Eyes. NA painful lesson indeed. Huh

Next week saw my second event and I managed to infiltrate the winning break of 6 and again due to inexperience began the sprint about 500 metres out so everyone overtook me. Still 6th was pretty cool Cool

Week 3. Not sure if this was a good thing in hindsight but this was my maiden win Smiley. Not by tactics but by pure brute strength. It was blowing a gale and I just rode away from from a fracturing peleton. Now my deflated ego was supersize. I tried the same method for the next 3 months and got nowhere. I now could not use the fact that no one knew me as my win made me a marked rider.

I slowly learnt and by the end of the season I had chalked up 12 wins. Final win of the season was a major local race called Rowlands Midhurst Rowlands. It was a miserable day with constant rain. The course went over South Harting Hill twice (a brute of a 1 in 8 ) and West Marden (a 1 in 6). I was first up all the climbs. I "sat in" all day then attacked after the last climb to win by 2 minutes.

Better days came later but you will have to wait for details as I'M OFF TO BED
