i get severe itching,on my legs, esp  on the calf muscles, knees and butts.I dont see any other symptom,ie my skin
looks normal. It is after itching, that it gets red.I dont think it is allergy,or dry skin.

Welcome.  It would be helpful to know your continent of residence.  What you describe could be a variety of different things.  Some mites or other parasites could be involved.  Could be fungal.  How is your diet?  Do you take vitamins, supplements or medications of any kind?

Hello !$!_at_  Hi there

Welcome to SkinCell!

I'd like to add to anthropositor's list of questions, do you moisturise your legs regularly? I find if I don't after my morning shower, my skin itches (even if it doesn't look very dry).

Thanks anthropositor and Wooly,
Here is some more information,I am in North America,(California )
I take a balanced diet comprising of vegetarian and nonvegetarian food, and do not take any medication or supplements on a regular basis.
I moisturize regularly and do not think that it is fungal infection.I have taken anti allergic medication but there is no improvement.

I have to say that I itch like mad when I come out of the shower, but I've kind of got a grip on it by using Aveeno Shower Oil then moisturising like mad too when I come out.

And it's only my legs that itch after the shower.

Hi friends,
i was expecting some relief from my problem ,but none of u seems to have a solution to it.
Its been over 10-12 days and my itching has become worse.I have made marks on my skin and also get up at nite.
I have tried caladryl lotion, Aveeno moisturizing lotion, body oils, anti allergic drugs but nothing seems to help.
Not getting an appointment with teh doctor earlier then 11 sept.
Can anybody suggest any tempory treatment or try to rule out my problem.

Hi,
And sorry no one has an answer.  It may be that you have become allergic to something.  Allergies are either by contact or by mouth.
Are your showers very hot?  If so make them luke warm as heat will make any skin sensitivity worse.  How hot is it these days in California?  Allergies can occur pretty suddenly.
Try cutting out all moisturisers and use only pure coconut or organic sesame oil after your shower.

Simplify your diet.  No alcohol, or stimulants, lactose or gluten, or meat.  If you can eat only vegetables and fruit you will be able to tell in a few days if you have some relief.  Avocados are useful for protein on this diet.

Have you looked at your washing powder?  If it is biological, change to non-biological.

I have just given you various things to try out, but no-one, either GP or dermatologist, is likely to be able to find you a quick fix to your problem.  You have to become more attuned to when the itching is bad apart from after the shower, and use this information to help work out your problem.

All of us on skincell will be happy to offer advice but YOU need to give us the information to give us the clues.

I don't mean to sound harsh, and truly wish you every luck with this.  I've had the major itchies so know quite how horrendous it is.

*Keep cool
*Wear pure cotton so your skin can breathe and keep you cooler
*Use ice packs to keep you cool
*Don't have frequent showers or worse still baths, just as liitle as you can get away with.  The water isn't good for the skin
*Eat really well

And know that we're here for you, willing you to succeed.
