Hi !!!

I'm new to SkinCell. I'm 22 yrs old female and in college. I just found out that I may have Vitiligo.

Heres my story:

I've had these white spots under my armpits for about 5-6 yrs now.

When I first noticed them years ago, they were very small white spots. Not raised, dry or scaley. Just white spots like loss of pigmentation.

I went to my family doctor and he immediately diagnosed it as a type of fungal. He treated me with two weeks worth of pills and an anti-fungal/steroid cream. I've been using the cream for YEARS, approx. 2 years to be exact.

The spots faded using this cream but are still there. When I stopped using the cream I noticed that they would start to come back. So I religiously kept using this cream. After seeing the same progress, I took it upon myself to seek help and go to a dermatologist who specializes in skin.

The minute she saw my armpits she automatically asked if I have anyone in the family who has vitiligo, an over-active thyroid, or anemia. I have no history of any of these, except a grandmother who is a diabetic. My dermatologist suggested I get off the anti-fungal/steroid cream immediately. She said that steroid cream is terrible to use for long periods like that. This was exactly two weeks ago, today, from when I saw her.

She feels that is was never a fungal in my skin. She thinks it could be vitiligo. So... I'm supposed to come off the cream and go back to see her in a month and she wants to test my skin to see what it could be. She never really actually diagnosed me yet.

I have to admitt. For the first time in my life I am very scared. I was just wondering if ANYONE has any input for me. When I first noticed these spots the were alittle smaller than a dime size. Now they expanded to about a half dollar coin size. They are only under my armpits. My dermatologist checked the rest of my body with a blacklight and couldnt see any more.

Does any on here have Vitiligo or know someone that I can have someone to relate to? I've done lots of research. Also, do you know it will can be diagnosed for sure?? If the dermatologist scrapes my skin and tests it in a lab, can they tell from that??

My parents arent very supportive or comforting about this. So I really need input.

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. Thanks so much!!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!
