Has anyone been on the Adkins Diet ?  my friend lost 80 pounds on it in 13 months I was going to try to lose a few pounds  but I have heard it could be harmful to your body.  but my friends doctor put her on this diet so Im confused about it  A doctor should know about things like this , but a nutritionist told me about it being harmful. Huh Huh

 Smiley hi GMAW

From what I have heard about it, I wouldnt do it. Cutting out anything completely in your diet is not good for you, we all need a balance. Obviously theres vegetarians, but they replace the protein from meat with other things, or they should  Wink I have seen it said that you are fooling the body by cutting out carbohydrates which causes a chemical reaction and weight loss, I also heard it causes kidney damage and bad breath.

Its another fad diet in my opinion. The only way to lose weight and keep it off is to commit yourself to a healthy balanced diet, less fat, less sugar and more fruit & vegetables & fibre & water. Teamed with exercise.... Easier said than done !!  Embarrassed

We have a weight watchas board here at Skincell GMAW, if you'd like to join us, or if anyone else would....just drop an IM to any of the mods and they will make it so !

I tried it about 3 years ago, and alto I did drop about 12 pounds in a month When my G-ma died I gained it all back + some because I wasnt following it anymore, (all that Food would Make any one Go yumm yumm Undecided Undecided laugh) . CP is right tho, the only way to really Loose and Keep it off is Diet and exercise and it does take Longer, but well worth the results !!!

The first time I heard of that diet  was before it got so popular. My thought then (and now) was that any diet that forbids a healthy potato skin, but tells you to go ahead and eat all the fried porkskins you want, can't be good.

Hi GMAW

I honestly think the Atkins diet is really unhealthy.

The best way to lose weight is increase exercise, increase your water intake, have a healthy balanced diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and a sensible balance of everything else.

Best of luck
