Hello everyone, I'm from Somerset, England.I am very new to the forum, and a forum I was delighted to find over the Christmas period. In early June this year I was diagnosed with Pityriasis Lichenoides Acuta, PLEVA I probably don't need to mention what a miserable few weeks I had, spending 5 weeks in hospital. it was first said I had Chicken Pox, I remember Chicken Pox as a kid and it was nothing like it, to be honest I don't think they knew what it was, the Dermatologist did a biopsy to get some answers, all the swabs were not giving any answers, at one point even MRSA was mentioned but I have been assured since that was negative. The rash or spots were so bad for a fortnight, and burn!! I could not stand up let alone walk, when I saw the photographs taken at the hospital I did not recognise myself, the only part I was clear was my back and thankfully it did not get onto my head.( I had visions of my hair falling out).the spots did clear up but I am badly scarred, I was told they would fade and disappear, there is no sign of that yet.I was also told because of the severity of the attack I would not have other attack, but these spots are still grumbling on, I am finding this upsetting, they are coming through only one at a time but they are large and extremely painfully, usually over my hands, but at present I have an awful one under my toe, I called at the hospital Christmas Eve and the toe was lanced. and also I was given antibiotics, I thought it was time to look up this complaint, so I was so pleased to find this site, where others will understand the problem, no one seems to know anything about this skin problem, but strangly enough lots seem to know someone with it, the hospital told me they hadn't come across it before, I haven't seen or heard of it before either or since. I must confess it is taking over my life, the first time I ventured out to shop I was extremely self conscious of the scarring I felt like a leper. Thank you for taking the time to read this, hopefully I may get some answers, or maybe someone will advise me on what to expect. Thank you again. Linda.
