Vitiligo
« on: Friday September 12, 2003, 12:08:11 AM »
My 7 year old has has white patches on his abdomen & groin for about 2 years. This year it is spreading to his chest and arms. My pediatrician's diagnosis was vitiligo - no treatment or cure.

Anyone know if there is anything that can prevent or slow the spreading? Also is there a specialist in the philadelphia area??

Thanks!

Me again......my son also has darker brown patches on his upper arms that the pediatrician said will probably lose pigment all together. Has anyone had this happen???

Thank you all for the hospitality!

Peter - I have a specialist appointment at Philadelphia's Childrens Hospital in January (1st available) but I've read that they don't like to start medication or phototherapy until children are 12.

I was hoping that someone out there has a suggestion on what I can do in the interim. I know some people take multivitamins or B12 but I wonder how effective it is.

Any help would be appreciated,
Sue

:hi: Sue,

Welcome to our cyber family. ;D

There have been some threads about vitaligo here, but I can't find them right now. :(

Have a look round the boards yourself and you will find that the people here are very helpful and will try to find information about these conditions. So keep on coming back in and we'll try to help you as much as we can.

I know how hard it is to watch your child suffer in any way. Just don't lose hope on finding something that will help him... :hugs:

You will always get 100% support here.

Val :hugs:

Hi my name is Megan. I developed vitaligo when i was just 7 and been living with it for 8 years but im doing fine. Kids at my school ask me what it is and i just telll them. I can't hide from it so i no everyone can see it. There are a few idiots who shout abbuse but i just ignore it and remind myself im not alone and it  hasnt stopped me from going out with guys and having fun with my mates.
