DEAR Doctor,

My baby has a terrible red and angry- looking nappy rash. What is the best cure for it?

Most nappy rash is fungal. As kids come into contact with urine, the area is hot, humid and dark i.e. ideal conditions for fungal infections. Canestan antifungal cream clears fungal intertrigo in most cases.

I ask mothers in my practice to apply soft paraffin over the baby's bottom to give it a barrier at each nappy change. The more time your baby can spend without a nappy on, the better he will be.

My Advice - Many mothers will buy expensive moisturisers for their babies, but this is often not necessary. The more natural you can keep things with your baby the better.

Email our magic medic questions you had never dared to ask to drsanjoykumar_thewharf@hotmail.com
