hello, i'm new. i found this forum while searching online about a certain skin problem that i have. i couldn't find any help just looking at websites, so maybe someone here can help me out. lately i've been getting red bumps on the back of my thighs and butt. they start out as small, itchy, kind of a prickly itch- bumps. then within a few days if i scratch them or my pants rub on them too much, they get bigger and more sore. then some eventually get a small pus-filled head on them and some even grow pretty large and get hard underneath and full of pus. (sorry if that's too much info) and they are very painfull, almost to the point where i can hardly sit down. and i have to use heat compresses to drain them and make them finally drain and go away, then they leave a dark kind of  scar...this problem started again just recently but i had the same type of thing happen about a year ago. i'm getting pretty frustrated, Angry after one goes away another one appears a few days later. i'm a very clean person and i don't sweat often or anything. anyone know what this is, or what i can do to avoid it?? any info would be helpfull, thanks.

Hi there ms1668,

This sounds a little like an acne problem but could also be HS...  Have you seen a dermatologist about this yet?

Erm, may seem kind of a silly suggestion, but did you try using a stronger soap?  I use a very mild olive oil soap, but if I don't change it up occasionally and use something with stronger anti-bacterial properties, my skin will start to break out in pustules.

Hi, folliculitis sounds right on there.
Soaps could do it, heat and humidity can too.  Breathable clothing, cotton is best.
Go see a derm.
I'm not too sure that it is HS, bu check it out here:  www.dermnetnz.org

So far we have acne, follicitis and HS. Sounds like HS to me, but I'm no doctor.

I agree with Fortuna... if there's any way you can get into a dermatologist's office, do so. regular doctors don't tend to know much about skin problems.

Hi !

I sometimes get something like that, it happens when I wear non cotton panties and/or sit for a longish time on a plastic chair (patio chair) when it's warm out. I found that using antibacterial soap (the type they give you before you have surgery) helps to clear it up (I found this out by accident just before going in for surgery). Regular antibacterial soap works too, but not as quickly.

wow, i wasn't expecting to get much of a response, thanks guys. but once again, what is "HS"? folliculitis...i read some things about that online and doesn't seem exactly to be what i have but..antibacterial soap, huh? i actually thought about that, but it seemed silly. i will try it though for sure, thanks! and i guess i will try seeing a dermatologist if it doesn't clear up.
