As a team the Moderators for the Forum have noticed recently that the issue of members being able to register, self-delete, re-register etc has been causing a certain amount of puzzlement, resentment and in some case annoyance.
More worryingly, It would even appear that the problem seems to be escalating.

For that reason we have decided that from now on members wil not be able to delete themselves on a whim. This does not mean that members are not able to 'leave' the forum completely, but rather we will be looking to take better control of the situation. For that reason we have drawn up the following guidelines:

1. In future any member wishing to have their membership terminated may apply to a Global Moderator using the IM (PM) system..
2. The request received by the Team will then be recorded on that day.
3. The requesting member will then have a 7 day cooling off period. During that time if the member would like to cancel their request for deletion their wishes will be honoured.
4. If, after 7 days, no Moderator has heard from the member in question then their account will be permanently deleted and that fact will also be recorded.
5. In future any member deleting their membership will not be permitted to have their old posts re-instated should they return and will have to start at zero posts once more.
6. Re-registration will be at the discretion on the Moderating Team.

If you have any questions please feel free to post them and i'll do my best to try and answer them.

Cheers

Nick

Sometimes, the moderation team can be too nice, and it is taken advantage of.  The new rules are a damn good idea Smiley

Sounds good Nick.
So much for letting people make a dramatic exit.  Wink I think the policy is wise in that members will be able to really think about what they are doing.
Thanks,

Thanks guys,

That's the intention Thumbs up

It's very easy to get hot under the collar sometimes and delete in anger, only to regret it.
Hopefully these steps will help members by giving them a bit of time to cool off and think if they really want to leave or not Smiley

Thumbs up I think its a good idea. Not only for the reasons mentioned, but also....that if someone has been offended or feels really upset, then at least one of the mods might get to know what the problem is and offer some assistance or support before they just dissapear. I think its fair all round really  Smiley

I think sometimes people also forget the fact that Moderators DO want to know if someone is offended so that they can act, or see if the person is being treated unfairly, being harressed or whatever. The report button is there, and in confidence between members and Mods.

I noticed a few people are now "guests" now. Did I miss something? I'm good at that.

Thanks AC Smiley

I remember, the 2nd best grade I got in my GCSEs was English Language...I got a C.  I hated school 1000% and could be bothered at all...but I got that C mainly through one piece of coursework...a fantasy sci-fi story.  Its about the only good work I did there!

I think this is a great idea also!  The moderators have so much other stuff to keep up with & all of the hard work that they do is just doubled by deleting of accounts.

Very good Nick, I was wondering when something would be done about this. There is enough grief in everyone's lives.

If people feel the need to take off, the least they can do is let someone know, and deleting an account is a bit drastic when maybe just allowing a few days or weeks would be enough to let the dust settle.

I know it's not always that simple, sometimes it's really hard to stay away, even if it's for the best. Perhaps there should be an option to lock your account for a specific amount of time so that only the mod team can retirive it for you when the time is right. Just a thought Smiley

This would be similar to the "Away message" idea proposed previously... I like them both.  I think something could be implemented in that area?

I do think that is a good idea, but yet extra more work for Admin. I think you could just as easily have 'I'm away' or 'having a break' either just under your avatar or as your signature........which you can do yourself.  Smiley
