Happy Memorial Day to our American friends, and I understand that today is a Bank Holiday in the U K.

This poor Canuck must satisfy himself by going golfing at 8 am.

Have a good day all

candle  Remembering all our service men and women who fought to preserve our freedom.

And a special candle for my father, a Korean War veteran who died of cancer when I was 12.  In his illness, he permitted himself to be used as a guinea pig, so others could benefit from his death

Our Celebration for those who fought in the wars is held on November 11th - at 11 am - .

It too is always overcast, usually raining and always cold.

Having been in the service it is a sad day for me - not that I have fought in any wars - but somehow that background tends to bring out sadness, much more than the average person.

It reminds me of my dad, who is 87, and in a Nursing Home in Montreal - having been born in Seattle Washington, he was, and still is an American Citizen -- spent 4 years as a Navigator in England in Bomber Command -- I guess I have some of his spunk in me, as, being an American and living in Canada at the outbreak of the war (1939) he signed up, but would not take the Oath to the Queen, as he would loose his American Citizenship - so his uniform was a Canadian Air Force Uniform - without Canada being on the shoulder patches. I must take a trip there soon, as, at 87, who knows how much longer he will be there.

Well yesterday was a real international event in northern France.
On the anniversary of the D-Day landings it was heart warming to see so many nations coming together to honour those who fell in battle on that day, regardless of their nationality.
If it had not been for the valiant efforts of the American and Canadian forces on that day Europe would be a very different place right now.

candle for all who gave their lives and also those survivors who battled on and eventually defeated the Axis powers and gave me with the freedom that I take for granted so readily.
