Skin Condition:
Pustular Psoriasis (hands)

Ignore
« on: Sunday March 20, 2005, 04:49:50 PM »

3/20/05 Huh Went to my GP and showed him my hands and told him I spend a lot of time in the woods.  He said it might be psoriasis but is treating it with a fungus cream.  After seeing some pictures on the web I am now sure its pustular psoriasis.  My GP said that there is no cure for psoriasis and what might bring it  on.  Time to see a dermatologist!
Does any one have any info on washing & taking a shower with this condition on your hands and fingers? Can one effect other areas of the body with PP like washing your face?  Can my wife get this by touching her? Gee lots of questions.
Thanks
Jack
Went back to GP 3/21/05 and put me on a steroid  (fluocinonide) ointment. Have appointment for Derm on 3/23/05.   This stuff is spreading like a wild fire in a dry forest.  Blisters seem to be getting bigger and spreading out in other areas on the hand.  Index finger seems to be the worst. Seems to get worse in 12hr cycles.
Have to wait and see what the derm says but I am not putting much hope into the visit especially from all the comments I have read on this site.
Went to derm on 3/23/05.  He looked at my hands and sat down and kind of gave me that smile that says we can treat it but can't cure it.
Being a professional photographer he was actually more impressed with the progressive photo's I have taken of my hands.  Long story short, he has put me on DIFLORASONE DIACETATE .05%.
(Generic for PSORCON .05%)
Has anyone had any luck with this cream?
4/5/05 well it has been about 2 weeks and this oint cleared up the PP. The infected area's are still stlightly red. I had a lot of the skin on my hands peal in small area's.  The reason I am posting today is that it seems that the pp is starting its cycle again and I am starting to get the little bumbs again.  Oh well what goes around comes around!!!
4/25/05 Went to derm (waste of time) hands look like they did on 4/5/05.  Diflorasone seems to keep PP under control however I still get flare ups.   Hands still have a lot of scaling and fingers still have a redish color to them. I am only using the Diflorasone at night now before bed since Diforasone is a steroid. More is not better with this medication.
Posted new picture after being on med for about 1 month in albums.

Hi Ultra

A warm welcome to the forum.  I suffer from Psoriasis, but not your form. Glad to see your are going to see a Derm.  In the meantime, I have put a link to one of our other members topic, which has details of their routines.

But in the meantime you can follow this----Washing:  Mild soaps or soap-free cleansers are beneficial, as they do not irritate or dry out the skin.  Soaking in warm baths with bath salts or tar products will help loosen the scales. Use a washcloth or loofah sponge to help exfoliate affected areas.  The skin should then be gently patted dry and medications or moisturizers should be applied immediately.

Dead Sea Mineral Bath Salts>

Moisturizers:  Keeping the skin moisturized has long been known to help psoriasis.  Daily lubrication after a shower or bath is essential for treatment and prevention of psoriasis.  Moisturizing gives the skin flexibility and helps reduce flaking and cracking associated with psoriasis.  Creams are better than lotions.  The following ingredients are helpful: propylene glycol, glycerin, salicylic acid or lactic acid.  Most of these ingredients are readily available in over-the-counter preparations.

If you have this stuff (PP)on your hands can it be transfered to other parts of your body by washing or showering.  Can it also be transfered to my wife by touching her?
Thanks for your reply

Welcome to SkinCell Ultra.

I'm sorry that your experiencing the nasty P! I have E and when my hands were very bad (haven't been THAT bad in many years) I would put my ointment on them and wrap them in saran.  Made little fingers and gloves you know Smiley  After about 2-3 days things looked good.  But the skin can look kinda funky.

I hope you find something that makes it feel better soon!

 Hugs

Off topic: I'd love to know about your photo!!  I ride, my bikes have been, in order of appearance: Honda Magna, Yamaha XT 225, Triumph Thunderbird, BMW 650 GS #1 and I'm on BMW F650 GS #2 (ABS and heated grips 'cause I'm a wimp Wink and I'm short which you can probably ascertain from my bikes!)

Hi, I am actually new to this sigt as well. I to share the same curse of pustular psoriasis and happened to read over your post before I listed one. I can share one product I use and standby firmly, this is Hibeclense, which is a antiseptic, antibicroial cleanser, similar to Betadine surgical scrub which I find hard to find these days! I also believe that it is spread internally, not externally  and it is not contagious. Nice to find a sight to share this "demond curse" and it's horrible effects with others who care! Thanks,  chey
