Hi Smiley

I'm not really new but have been away for well over a year or so when I used to pop on here quite often. I remember this being a place with lots of good people on and looks like it's still the case! Smiley

I've had Psoariasis since I was 6 years old which developed after a traumatic event and it has been with me ever since. The physical side of it is the most apparent but most people really don't appreciate how having Psoariasis, or any other skin disease, can cause mental trauma and anguish to the sufferer.

It's been a long hard struggle for me to deal with and accept and will probably be a struggle for awhile yet to come. I feel that society today places so much emphasis on beauty and perfection these days, which in turn churns out so many shallow and materialistic people and attitudes.

Living with any disease or disability is hard enough and suffering is life yet all I long for is a bit of peace...

Anyway, will be good to get to know everyone a bit better....Ian Smiley

I've had to live with it at a young age also. Its so sad how so many people take their skin for granted.

Hi Fruitbat

Welcome to the forum.  Yes, I said the same thing to my son the other day, that people take their skin for granted, and how nice it would be to be able not to put oily creams on etc.

Hi Ian,

I'm new, nice to 'meet' you  Smiley

I agree with what you say about the other effects our skin conditions have on our lives.  Our society places so much emphasis on beauty and youth it would make me depressed even if I didn't have bad skin and wrinkles!  Undecided

I hope you feel better soon.

Ian,
I'm fairly new here. You are right, this is a great forum!  Praise
I completely understand about society making it hard for people with skin disorders.
My sons are 2 & 5 years old.  Both of them have eczema. One son has it much worse.  Alot of people stare at them & ask _at_ parks, or play areas if it is contagious.  My 5 year old son wants to wear a turtleneck & pants 365 days a year & we live in Texas!  He tries to hide his eczema.  Sad Sad   My 2 year old has to do everything his big brother does. He dresses the same way.  Doooh! I know people are thinking I am a cruel mom, when I have on shorts & a tank top in 100 degree weather & my children are bundled for a blizzard.
Good Luck to you with your psoriasis. Welcome back!!!!!!!!!

Hello Ian,

Chin up Darling! I do understand how depressed and upset we can get with our chronic skin problems. I've been in that place so many times. You are among friends that understand and care about you here.

Be well,

Ellen
