On Evil Dead 4, -and- the Evil Dead remake...

"Sam Raimi and Tapert, when asked if they were considering Sean Scott Williams for the part of Ash, looked at each other for a minute and then, together said, "Who is that?" Sam then said, "I don't think I've ever heard of him".

In regards to 'Evil Dead 4 Raimi says, "There will be an Evil Dead 4, and there will ALSO be an Evil Dead Remake. The remake will be produced by Ghost House pictures, (his company with Tapert) and it will star a new cast and a completely new director. The point of Ghost House is that we want to bring new directors (like Takashi Shimizu of "the Grudge" to Hollywood and give them a chnace to make a good horror film."

On WHAT inspired him to allow the remake, Raimi said, "I love the original Dawn of the Dead, and I also really enjoyed the new Dawn of the Dead. I mean, they are both really great horror films. I want to let somebody with a fresh vision bring The Evil Dead to a new generation and a new audience with a different vision..."

Contrary to what Raimi told Mr. D, the remake will be Evil Dead 1 and 2 together, but remade with a higher budget and a new cast and crew.

However, Raimi will be directing and producing Evil Dead 4, which will star Bruce Campbell as ASH and will also have many of the actors from the previous Evil Dead movies. Raimi says that "This is the project I really want to make. The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original".

Ted and Sam Raimi have begun writing Part 4, and will be developing it for production later this year. Bruce Campbell and Tapert will both be involved..."

I'd say the same thing he said, "I don't think I've ever heard of him."

Because his name is Seann William Scott  Wink

I noticed that, too.  But then again -I- didn't write that.

Wink

He would have sucked as Ash anyway.  F*uckin' Stifler as Ash.  Not good.  Raimi already said that there will be "no Ash" in the remake, as per Bruce Campbell's request.  It should be an excellent, straight forward "Book of the Dead" movie then.  (Book of the Dead was the original title for Evil Dead.  It was also meant to be more of a supernatural zombie flic, but never got the chance because of budget and the crew's inexperience.)

Also, when they asked if the upcoming Evil Dead movies were going to be rated PG-13 like the rest of the Ghostship Pictures movies have been - Tapert replied with an "I don't think that would work."

So good, they're on the right track.  Bruce Campbell was said to have warned Tapert and Raimi that the fans were getting peeved off at the idea of a remake without an ED4.  I was definitely one of them.

The news makes me really happy.  It shows that Sam Raimi isn't afraid of going back to his roots as a filmmaker.  I'm one of the few people that actually has every one of his Super 8 movies besides about four of them.  Raimi and Campbell were still in high school by the looks of them, and then the movies get more intricate and less "3 Stooges" as they went on to college and brought other guys on such as Rob Tapert - who co-incidentally married "Xena" star Lucy Lawless after producing the series, along with Hercules, with Sam Raimi.

I'm actually writing a really cool horror screenplay on the weekends (although I'm constantly thinking about it and jotting notes) that I'm hoping will be produced by Ghostship.

It's called "The Taker".

An ordinary thief discovers that he can steal objects from his dreams and bring them into the waking world.

laugh  Hehe, I think the dream can live on, though, because technically they answered the question correctly...

This actually sounds like a cool concept, Gary (albeit from one sentence).   I think if you can flesh it out and not make it dumb Wink then you're all set.

I really didn't like the name "The Taker" at first - sounded uneducated - but I have to admit, it kind of grows on you.

The one line synopsis really tells you the bare bones and that's it, but it's a cool story - I just have two directions I can go in right now, and it's killing me - because they're both so good.  So now it's a matter of seeing which one I can add more to, and then using that.  They're mostly elements related to the end of the story, so it's important to me that I nail down something substantial.  Saying "It was all a dream!", would seem to be the perfect Hollywood ending to this - but I would never write something like that.  There's got to be a much bigger big payoff.  Preferably a penance.

There's a great character called "The Keeper" (aptly named "Chimera", but only in the script since no character would ever have a way of finding this out) who is the antithesis of what "The Taker" is.  He is, in essence, the entity that's responsible for keeping everything in the dreamworld - and when this douche bag comes into it and starts breaking the rules, The Keeper is forced to do anything in it's power to stop him.

There's a heavy backstory on why this guy's a thief - and you can sort of/kind of feel bad for him at times, but for all intents and purposes - he's actually the villain of the story.  Some people (if not most) will probably be rooting for him, but he's still stealing what doesn't belong to him - and through various circumstances, these objects are being put into the hands of other people who will have to suffer the consequences as well.

One of the things that's guaranteed to scare the sh*t out of everyone (if it's directed correctly), is my homage to the Jason, "Hu hu hu, ch ch ch" sound.  It's his warning to them - and of course, no one heeds it. Wink

Keep in mind that this is conceptual and an extremely low quality recording:

Grin woohoo Evil Dead 4 !!

I have always liked Raimi, watched quite a few of his movies quite some years ago tho, I'm afraid my memory fails me. My boyfriend at the time, way back, was a huge B movie fan  Roll Eyes some were better than others  laugh Basketcase ? Brain Damage ? Night of the Living Dead etc....

I am not so interested in the remake but I am so glad there isnt a Stiffler in sight  laugh Tho, if they are gonna get directors the likes of 'the grudge' guy then I'm up for having my pants scared off !  Grin

Gary, I love your idea, The Taker. Astral Projection maybe ? Liked the creepy noise attatched too  Grin
